Oh god, just looking at that hurts my soul.
Time to stop using lemmy.world communities, fellas.

Were they acting out of character though? Because from the time they were in the car until the scene pictured, they seemed pretty consistent to me. You could make the argument they were influenced all the way back at the beginning of the movie, but I always was pretty horrified (exaggeration, but general feeling) and on chihiro’s side as soon as the car stopped. The desire of her parents to walk through the tunnel and continue on always seemed weird. I like planned adventures, not to have an impromptu stop while moving. We can have fun and explore once the absolutely critical task is done, goddamnit! I will not succumb in fiction to what I do in real life!

21·10 months agoOh, cool that’s the one where they joke about the water being scared of the mammoth, so they put ‘walls’ on the boat to prevent it from being seen and therefore the boat floats instead of sinks?
Aw, that makes me sad that I never got that. We just had the example in our textbook be a cop at a tollway.
Lol, wikipedia in regards to math is always fucky. I love statistics and calculus, and I still struggle through their pages.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Gun nuts of the fediverse. Do any guns use two magazines at once?
41·11 months agoIf you’re going to be firing while reloading, you aren’t going to hit much. Practicing your reload can get it to a speed where the time of the loss of your ability to fire is almost indistinguishable from the time it takes you to get your gun accurately back on target after a shot.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What show is weirdly or oddly cozy for you?
3·11 months agoI try not to think about it too much if it’s something that isn’t something that I need to interact with, like orange juice or bacon, both of which I avoid, because, yeah, it is terrifying. Advertisements are real life attempts to shape the behavior of the world.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What show is weirdly or oddly cozy for you?
2·11 months agoLol, I picked the name because of its effect on my life. I had a family member who would only eat their bacon if it was nearly burned, and so I have very strong memories of the horrible nature of bacon as a kid.

3·11 months agoThey had it on the tv when I went to lunch a few weeks ago. Watching it was way better than any of the sports on the other walls.

3·11 months agoMy friend is super into star trek and convinced me to watch some with him. I’d say go look up a ‘top 5’ of the OG star trek, watch those, then do what the others have suggested.

2·11 months agoBluey is fantastic. My partner is from australia, and every time we are waiting in a pediatrician’s waiting room, we love it when it’s on the telly. He says he could start a side business smuggling bluey items from oz to here.

8·11 months agoI honestly think the bacon thing was an advertising push; one that gained its own momentum. If I remember something interesting, it’s that the original bacon advertising campaign over a hundred years ago was one of the most successful advertising campaigns in its long term effects on the ‘culture’ of american breakfast. Then there was another push with it to become a ‘premium’ addon in culinary circles in the 90s-00s.
There is definitely something odd about meat in people’s minds, though, you’re right. I’ve never heard of anyone, even italian chefs, caring about whether a pasta must be cooked al dente to be done right, but every idiot and their cousin will tell you they know exactly how a steak must be cooked, and everyone else is wrong, and not only wrong but a terrible savage for thinking differently.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Favorite Firefox addon that isn't just ublock, darkreader, etc? I throw out Singlefile but you probably have that
41·11 months agoI use librewolf, and I still get the notifications from port authority. Maybe that means librewolf wasn’t doing it, or port authority just detects that it’s supposed to happen even if librewolf has already stopped it.

Port authority - stops port scanning of your local network [and I found out how many fucking assholes do this. My own employer freaking does it >:( ]

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•It is now 89 seconds to midnight. Closest it's ever been. How concerned are you about global war?
2·11 months agoMy guess is venezuela is going to ‘kick it off.’ Trump does something stupid as another bit of red meat to toss to his little horde, he pushes argentina to help in some way, maybe he gets really brazen and tries something against brazil for their crime of daring to say anything against him (and maybe because he still has bad feelings about them from when musk was his little bestie), and china and russia decide to get rich by selling weapons to the south american countries, who will obviously have feelings about the whole us invasion. That pulls american attention away from asia, letting china have more options in their local area to bully around, and that kicks off something from that area.
Europe, africa, and the middle east might get out mostly free of conflict. The ukraine/russia war will likely still plod along.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s something you own that has truly paid for itself?
5·1 year agoAbsolutely agreed. I got a decent office chair over a decade ago, and it’s been good since. I think it has a teeny wobble that popped up in the last two years, but other than that the padding and such are still great.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Bazzite surpasses 30k active users, gaining 5k users since two months ago 🎉
3·1 year agoBazzite didn’t work for me out of the box (I wanted to see if it being ‘gaming focused’ had any positives), and what tinkering I could do didn’t fix the steam gaming. I went back to an arch-based distro and haven’t had any problems.

Right? One of the first things anyone will tell you, therapist or no, is to have a fun hobby. I doubt the guy on the channel is merely doing it for the views/money.
