Open Source@lemmy.ml•What is the best alternative to google maps, not for navigation, but for business discoverability and reviews?English
17·3 months agoI’m interested in the answer to this as well. I navigate exclusively with comaps but I still have to keep google maps to discover restaurants, hotels and attractions.
I’ve already decided to move away from Bitwarden for these reasons but I’m still looking for what comes next.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The Day My Smart Vacuum Turned Against MeEnglish
31·1 year agoPeople that take a bucket to the river for their water don’t have to worry about plumbing leaks. Not having to spend time gathering water is worth the time of dealing with plumbing for me. I feel similarly towards having to do surface level vacuuming vs the time of dealing with firewalls.

Lots of people that aren’t me are going to make the choice to purchase Apple hardware. Some of that hardware will eventually be sold, donated or gifted with many years of use left. Thanks to projects like Ashai, recipients of the second hand hardware can spend those years on Linux instead on Apple software.
I would much rather the original purchasers buy open hardware but until that becomes their priority there will continue to be an endless stream of proprietary hardware ending up in the hands of people who had no input on the purchase decision.
