Don’t tell Microslop…
I wonder if it still works. I’ll have to fire up a VM and try it out.
LOL, have at it 👍
Its © 2001, so that’s probably a key from OG XP Home, pre-SP1
I just threw the package away, it was moldy and didn’t even have the CD. The only CD that was in there was an MSI driver CD, cracked in half of course.
I don’t even need the key for anything, I got an archived collection of numerous keys up through release candidates of Windows 7.
I did however cut out the section of the package with the logo that says “Designed for Windows XP”, for shits and giggles. I might make a fridge magnet out of it LOL!
It will with the right ISO.
There are GitHub apps that generate these now iirc, been decades since I’ve needed one
It’s funny that you can activate windows for free with a script hosted on a website microsoft owns.
But microsoft has always cared more about getting windows installed on consumer computers for that os dominance than actually making money off it. Enterprise is where they get the real money.
Afaik, XP had no verification server, but the keys were decrypted and verified locally, like many games. So if it worked back then, it will probably work today as well.
They actually did have a verification server, of some sort anyways. They’d just give you a 30 day grace period to fully activate it, either online or by a phone number activation system.
That’s since been reverse engineered though, other comments have pointed that out, or you could just get a hacked ISO that’s already pre-activated or just removed the activation altogether.
