In an unexpected mask off “secure” email and VPN provider Proton took the stance of siding with the fascist MAGA Reps. Proton’s services are no option for me and many others any longer. Let’s collect and discuss alternatives (E2E encrypted email and VPN) here 🔐👇

Always try to provide:

-Server location (jurisdiction)

-Governance

-Integrity/trustworthiness/transparency

-User experience/ease of use (grade 1 to 10, lets take Proton as a benchmark with an 8)

-Pricing and links

If you know alternative setups, feel free to share, too.

I personally don’t care. If their code changes, I’m out, but this shit is par for course. Capitalists are largely all capable of these decisions.

Yeah, I agree. Lotta good points here, maybe the guy is a jerk, maybe an not-thought-out post, idk. If they start screwing with the actual service, that’s an easy signal and I’d be out too.

maybe the guy is a jerk, maybe an not-thought-out post, idk.

The guy in charge of the direction of their company and who directly influences their security and secures your data can’t restrain himself on the public sufficiently to appear trustworthy to 50+ % of the population.

There are, of course, exceptions, but usually, when someone of that demeanor and lacking restraint makes it to that position, they end up fucking over their company. And since they’re in charge of protecting your data, you should actually think twice about giving them your trust.

You can view the code and bail if any of these things happen. Until then, it’s just guesswork.

Their servers aren’t open source, and they’re full of my data.

Their mail service by necessity is going to collect data on me.

They’re going to have DNS on their VPN side. How do I know the VPNs aren’t logging me.

They have given up data on people before which makes me rather certain they’re logging.

Android SMS and mail apps are open source too right?
