It reflects how Bungie, as a studio, has made no less than 2 completely iconic game franchises. Yet they still have to sell themselves to publishers to stay afloat. Something is wrong there.
Past sales don’t pay today’s bills. I suppose they could rehash Halo every other year like Call of Duty, but I don’t think anyone would like that.
Destiny 2 was free-to-play. It lived off the Eververse and seasonal pass sales. Those haven’t gone away in-game.
It reflects Bungie not making any money because Pete Parsons needed more cars and because they made a game no one wants to play.
They’ll be happy once we’re all indentured servants paid only in the most basic shoe-box housing and gruel.
I worked there for 8.5 years, including when this place was built.
Bungie thought they were getting a jump start on things when they pulled the trigger on this project at the start of COVID, when they first sent everyone home. At the time, Bungie was I think over 1000 employees, across development, incubation, administrative, IT, marketing, publishing, etc.
Less than 200 people ever really returned to office. Hybrid/remote became the norm at Bungie.
I thought when Sony bought Bungie they’d move some other Seattle studios into the building.
It only makes sense at this point to lease space out.
