I think it definitely has gotten a tarnished reputation. But even modern software tiers are standard, advanced, premium and premium means you get all the features at a huge price

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Any research on damage to clothes from drying them in a dryer?
5·6 days agoI don’t have a study, but the tumbling and rubbing wears on clothes, compared to hanging to dry.
Some good shirts you will notice the collar seams and other edges start to wear.
In some cases like jeans and cotton cashual henley style shirts this gives a softening effect.
If I recall he was more hung up on the consent part, because he was probably a black and white logic thinker. If Teen consent, therefore OK. I think later he made a statement that he had re-thought it, after people argued that a teen saying yes is not consent because they can’t legally consent.
Pavucontrol is great. Sometimes just entering that GUI has fixed the sound connection for me

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How can I remain professional toward this female colleague I feel wants something romantic with me when I don't?
2·12 days agoWell that’s the trouble with HR, its a person(s) and they are unpredictable. Thankfully where I’m at the HR is good. I had a situation where a coworker was being toxic. I made a complaint and they handled it discretely and in a way that the source wasn’t needed.

2·13 days agoThat’s just one step and doesn’t break addiction, you need a mental shift and life change to stay away from the drug that holds you
What does it take to get a counselling cert etc. Out our way therapists and psychologists charge $120-150 per hour to listen to peoples problems. Some work from their own house.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How can I remain professional toward this female colleague I feel wants something romantic with me when I don't?
131·13 days agoIt might be wise to talk to your boss or HR to have a written record of the situation, and ask they don’t act on it. Just in case the person is one that takes rejection really badly and goes to HR to say you sexually harassed her

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you fall asleep listening to podcast, videos etc? Favorites to listen to?
2·13 days agoIf you want completely different genre, these I find helpful if I can’t sleep.
Darknet Diaries - stories of ex hackers and penetration testers telling their experiences on a job. Sneaking into various facilities etc.
Stuff You Should Know - two hosts laying out various topics with a bit of silliness and banter mixed in.
Lost SciFi Podcast -dude reads various short stories from ages ago. He’s a good reader but just enough monotony to fall asleep to if you aren’t into the story
Debloating a system for a tiny appliance device is worth it. Debloating on a machine with a modern processor, 16-64 GB ram and a TB harddrive is not necessary. You may not even notice a difference.
But if you enjoy that stuff, go for it.
I have only used KSH for a proprietary software install that needed it, it didn’t feel much different than working in a BASH shell.

Business managers who don’t understand work flow and lead time properly. If they read The Theory of Constraints and understand the concepts they’d realize the important part is keeping the work/product moving even if that means an idle machine that just punches one hole all day, but necessary.
