Steam does a lot of shitty things — including using gambling mechanics on kids and failing to moderate the neo-nazi clubhouse that are their forums — but they are not a monopoly and do not behave in a monopolistic or anticompetitive manner whatsoever. Their success and market share is genuinely earned on merits.
Personally, I would prefer GOG, but many games don’t release there, or release there much later. Epic could compete, but their heart is clearly not in it as they refuse to give customers features they want out of a platform and do engage in anticompetitive practices.

How wholesome! I also appreciate the move to Codeberg. Don’t forget that Codeberg runs on donations. Please help if you can.

I am very worried about the US starting WW3. It’s March of 1939, and nazis are actively fabricating a casus belli against weaker foreign political enemies.
It’s now slated to leave beta on December 11. I plan on giving it another try at that point, because I loved the Cosmic beta but kept running into frustrating GUI bugs. I’m back on KDE Plasma for now, but keeping a close eye on Cosmic.
CAD is going to be your achilles heel, unfortunately.
If Blender can do what you need, then you are fine, but if you need CAD for things like architecture, I’m afraid it’s one of the most painful gaps in Linux, currently.
Try Bazzite first. If you find you need more control, then switch to Fedora KDE.
Avoid POP_OS for now. Their new desktop environment is currently in beta and it still has some bugs. When it finally releases later this month and the remaining bugs have been fixed, it may be worth a try. The nice thing about Linux is that it’s very quick and easy to install, so you can try different distros quickly and easily.
I recommend getting yourself a dedicated thumb drive and put Ventoy on it. Ventoy lets you selectively boot to any iso you put on the thumb drive. It’s just wonderful.

I love KDE and have it dialed in exactly how I like it. I was able to get 90% of the way there with the Cosmic beta, which is good enough. The way you can toggle between tiling and floating is incredible. If I hadn’t kept running into frustrating GUI bugs I would have stuck with it.
One other little thing that bothered me was the file manager GUI. KDE Dolphin is hard to beat, and Cosmic’s default is beyond bare-bones in comparison. If S76 keeps investing in Cosmic it could be the best DE by a mile within another year or two.
The r-word isn’t typically used against ADHD people. The post implied a specific flavor of neurospicy.
Republicans are retarded.
I am neurospicy.
I do not believe it is possible to be both.

I tried the beta for a while after it dropped. I liked it, but kept running into frustrating UI bugs. My favorite feature was the way you can seamlessly switch between floating and tiling modes. I’ll give it another try when it reaches release, because I am very excited by the direction it’s heading. It just needs polish.

Icarus is solid and Kitten Space Agency appears to be coming along nicely.
This is my rule, too.

I am really excited for Cosmic’s future. I loved the toggling float-tiling functionality, but I was having too many issues with GUI apps, taskbar icons, and annoyances like those. Once it has some more polish I will be happily revisiting it. It may be the first DE in a decade with the potential to tempt me away from KDE.

It’s very easy to uninstall.
Step 1: Download Bazzite
Step 2: Install Bazzite
Step 3: Erase Windows
That’s all there is to it.

For all intents and purposes it is Steam OS.

I am too much of a tinkerer for Bazzite, but it’s still the distro I recommend the most for new users. If they decide they need more freedom, then Fedora KDE is the next step I recommend.
Most Windows expats should be completely happy with Bazzite.
Like most words it can mean different things depending on context. I’ll do my best to cover a few without spoiling it with my own opinions.
The most common usage is as a blanket pejorative aimed at anyone who identifies as leftist but also openly endorses authoritarian means or ends.
There are also those who embrace the term and they are also not all the same. There are Marxist-Leninists who believe the only path to a stateless egalitarian society is through a revolutionary vanguard party. There are also those who argue that egalitarian society can only be achieved and maintained through benevolent authoritarianism.
In any case, the term carries an implication of authoritarianism and/or revolutionary violence, hence “tanks.”

Build a time machine and go back in time to stop WebOS from being sold to HP.

There are two “just works” distros I recommend to new users: Bazzite or Fedora.
Start with Bazzite. It is familiar and has lots of guardrails so it’s nearly impossible to break.
If you decide you want more control over your system later, switch to Fedora KDE.
If you decide you want even more control and flexibility, consider CachyOS or OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.
You will see Mint recommended a lot, but I don’t like it. The default desktop — Cinnamon — is very Windows 95, and I much prefer KDE Plasma, which doesn’t work well on Mint. Mint also has driver issues with newer hardware. But if you like retro and your hardware is older, give it a try.
Avoid Pop_OS right now. It’ll probably be amazing in a year, but the new Cosmic desktop (currently a beta) has a lot of annoying bugs with common linux GUI packages.
China actually has a viable space program, so being an astronaut actually seems attainable. And do teachers in China actually make a fair living wage?
