I have bazzite, it also includes graphics drivers ready to go which is nice. If you’re going to use steam for gaming i find it great. But this distro is not needed for gaming, one can install and game on any of the popular distros. You’re friend needs to try a few and see what feel best for them.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Finally switched my fiancee to bazzite, fuck me was it a trial
2·3 months agoYeah, i have an example of this. I spent since time today building a local copy of handbrake have it run in a distrobox of arch to get AMD hardware acceleration as an option. The flatpak version refused to do this. It wasn’t too bad, but still wild i did this.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•How do/would you stream from Jellyfin to a TV?
1·1 year agoSure you can convert the DVD to whatever codec, I have found the original mpeg stream to not be very compatible with my devices. When I did 264, it was more for speed. It’s a 480 p/I mpeg2 stream, I don’t think 265 is worth the extra CPU cycles for this case. This is also just an opinion. 👍
True about AC3 being left alone, but dts should be converted, I can’t seem to get that to bitstream as nice as Dolby tracks.
I do reencode my uhd rips, to bring them down to 1080. I only have one 4k display and it’s not worth the bandwidth to try and stream it for me.

23·1 year agoDid you try Kodi? Also, I recommend reencoding your dvd rips to h264 with eAC3 audio.
