If it’s not a yes, it’s a no. If you ask someone on a date and they um and ah, that’s effectively a no. Some people are just bad of saying no.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do some people try to humanize the wealthy and people in positions of power?
71·4 days agoTo try to understand someone is not the same as respecting them. One can try to understand one’s enemy to better fight them.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are you still friends with any of your exes?
2·28 days agoI have been for quite a few of them. We’ve fallen out of contact now. I think it’s a good thing to be. But if either of you are heart broken, you need to cut off contact for a while to really get over them before you can be friends.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the problem with banning weapons?
4·2 months agoAgreed. Although I don’t know if killing healthy animals is a “good reason” to own a gun.
You don’t say what country you’re in, so I’ll assume you’re in my country. 16 is the age of consent so it’s totally fine from a legal perspective.
Whether it’s morally ok depends on the people involved. Are they similar maturity levels? Or is one taking advantage of the other’s immaturity?
Either way, it’s none of anyone’s business.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Men can take their shirts off for hot days and exercise. Why can't women do the same in 2025?
6·2 months agoYou know, I’ve been in places with lots of nudity, and for the first day or so all you want to do is look. Then after that you stop looking and it just becomes normal. I imagine if women going topless was more common, guys would not look any more than they currently do.
Either they don’t like you or they do but they’re just too busy to put in the effort. Either way you’re better off spending time with others.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are you a feminist? (If so why, if not why not?)
1·4 months agoYeah sorry, I meant inequality is non directional. It might seem like I’m being pedantic with language. But I was unsure if you meant that men’s experience was more homogenous than women, so women experience more inequality even within their gender. Which I don’t think it’s the case. There are more male billionaires and CEOs, but also more male homelessness and suicide.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are you a feminist? (If so why, if not why not?)
5·4 months agoThe fact that there are so many definitions of what feminism is, shows that the label is not super useful. If you say you’re a feminist, you then have to explain which version you’re taking about.
It could be anything from “people should be given equal opportunity” to the extreme “all sex between a man and a women is rape”

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are you a feminist? (If so why, if not why not?)
121·4 months agoLabels that start off as descriptive become prescriptive. People who associate strongly with a label are less likely to have nuance to their views or change their minds. It becomes us and them.
You can become a prisoner of your labels.

1·4 months agoWhat flag?
Yes this! Do a trial with each one and see which class she likes better. It might come down to the teacher, the other students, or any number of other factors that aren’t the style of martial art.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are you a feminist? (If so why, if not why not?)
111·4 months agoI think women do experience more gender based adversities, but I worry framing it like that creates an “us and them” situation between genders. We should fight inequality wherever it exists.
It also misses intersectionality. Not all men are advantaged over all women. A man born in poverty, violence, with a disability, or of a marginalised race, isn’t automatically better off than a rich white women born to a good supportive family.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are you a feminist? (If so why, if not why not?)
33·4 months agoFor each of those examples women were disadvantaged and men were advantaged. So they both experienced inequality.

389·4 months agoI don’t believe in an -ism. I believe in equal rights. I think the name feminism does more harm than good.

91·4 months agoCan you explain how women deal with more inequality than men?
I’m not ignorant. I’m making a point, you drongo.
How would one guess? Only americans are arrogant enough to assume the whole internet is american?
Why would someone post something like OP without stating what constitution it is? Do they expect only americans to read it? Maybe keep your american jokes in american specific communities.

Try to understand yourself better. Notice when you have strong emotions and question why. Revisit the same situation from different angles and try to understand what happened. Why did this make you angry, why did that make you feel ashamed.
Also don’t spend your life arguing online. It’s easy to get caught up in winning an argument. But it’s a waste of your time.
