I consider this argument irrelevant in 2026. The average “full” distro is pretty much plug and play, Ive done nothing but install Steam on my Fedora install and game extensively.

This was not the case even 5 years ago, which is when “gaming” distros were an ok idea and these distros started. By now, the niche they aimed to serve has been largely closed by legacy distros.

No in the sense of convenience, optimization, out-of-the-box features etc.

Because installing Steam (which bundles proton) is soooo inconvenient…

CachyOS is greatly optimized and truly does increase your FPS compared to other distros (and by quite a lot, like 10-15% on average from what I’ve experienced!)

…which distros and games are you comparing because this is not a universal experience… It strongly depends on the game and personal config, no single distro is better than others fps-wise, as benchmark averages keep proving.

Gamers Nexus made a good video on Linux benchmarks if you feel like learning.

How many use Fedora?

Between these two, Cachy.

If choice is open: Fedora.

“Gaming” focussed distros are often a worse choice imo, because they offer zero performance benefit, are bloated in an attempt to bundle drivers out of the box, are harder to troubleshoot because worse documentation, and the preinstalled configs can cause headaches.

“Gaming” distros are cringe, ineffective gimmicks.

Hey man, I understand it doesnt often feel this way, but yes bureaucracy IS an implementation of democracy.

Food standards, water standards, data protection laws, environmental laws, building standards, etc…

are all bureaucracy by the people to protect the people.

We also know of very little philanthropy or charity Gabe does.

This could just mean he donates non-publicly, or barely at all, we can’t be sure.

Windows is great! Unless you value privacy…or RAM… or Bandwidth efficiency…or easy networking… or owning your system

Ill put it this way; me and a mate switched to Linux as our main drivers at roughly the same time. Both of us have a background in development (him more), I switched to Fedora, he to Cachy.

It is now roughly two years later. He has switched his distro multiple more times. Im still on Fedora because it just works.

Arch based distros are for tinkerers and customisers. Sure it can just work too, but if you dont tinker then theres no real point/ advantage.

The most common pronounciations are “for-in” and “for-un”.

The “ei” in “foreign” is a schwa ( /ə/ ) and so is the “o” in neighbor.

fȯr-ən

You’re probably speaking some fringe accent.

Because it’s not a “hard” E… it’s a mid-central vowel in “foreign” (schwa): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid_central_vowel (like when going “uh”)

Proof in an American dictionary: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/foreign

While “ei” in “Neighbor” is NOT a schwa, it’s an “ay”: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/neighbor

"[ICT unemployment] 7.5% in 2025 with the lowest point of 5.9% in 2022. In more recent years, the share has increased, while still remaining below its 2016 level. In 2025, it rose by 1.0 percentage points (pp) compared with the previous year. "

USA is also rising but still significantly lower than EU:

P.S. Do you not speak with other devs? Many of us are having a real hard time in Europe right now and almost anyone will tell you that.

Unemployment in our (EU) IT sector is higher than in the US and rising… What are you talking about?

you can just call/text your boss that you have a common cold and you can be on a sick leave for few days (3 days is pretty common limit) just self-diagnosing it

Aw man I wish but my idiot countrymen voted the socially conservative neolibs again :(

Even non-life-threatening injuries can impair your driving and cause worse on the way to the hospital.

Just call an ambulance and explain the injury, they can evaluate if and how much you should be prioritised over others/ not.

Why waste doctors’ time on something that’ll pass on its own with a bit of rest and paracetamol?

Mandatory sick notes in my country, hate it.

If you yourself are open to multiple perspectives coexisting, then you should have a problem with DHH’s exclusionary philosophies.

Have you read anything he’s written?

I just try to understand all sides

You’re doing a pretty bad job understanding the non-fascist side tbh. I think you’re trying to smokescreen your personal opinion behind the guise of “trying to” understand DHH.

GNOME visually reminds me of iPadOS (not good) and just hasn’t been as intuitive as KDE. Both are usable, KDE just came easier to me.
