  • Huh. Interesting article. But, like a lot of people, I didn’t really know anything about Unity before other than they tried to lock in and fundamentally change the fee model with their last CEO.

With respect to PC gaming, this CEO talked a lot more about AR, VR, and “web games” (still not really sure what those are, he envisions people playing them on phones in a Safari browser?) than he did about PC games. That’s concerning, but maybe to be expected of the former COO of Zynga. I guess that’s where the majority of the money is… He even said “We’re usually supportive of PC gaming too.” Lol. But in fairness, they did touch on the Steam Deck, just less than they did on things I’m much less interested in, like vehicle UX, and nothing about Linux gaming at-large…

I think developers realized how much depending on a single closed ecosystem like Unity could put them over a barrel and started to look at alternatives like Godot, etc that will probably continue to haunt this new Unity company for a while. But I’ve always been of the opinion that more competition and choices are better, for consumers and companies…

Wow, personal insults, classy. And “people who did what they could”…? Are we reading the same words?? I’m calling out my fellow Americans who decided not to do all they could. Those who literally didn’t do the absolute minimum to prevent all of this: gestures broadly at the everything by voting. And I’m not acting above it or anything. Maybe I should have done more outreach? Apparently we didn’t hammer home the dire consequences clearly enough…?

Still, what in my rant makes you think I’m targeting anyone who made any effort at all?? I’m saying to people who did nothing: they and we need to do better. We literally won’t have a country anymore otherwise…

Oh, come on. About 90 million people listened to everyone and their (non-conservative) mother say how this might be the most important election, Trump won’t give up his power, they’re going to enact Project 2025, it’ll be nothing but a revenge tour, they’re fascists, a second Trump administration is an existential threat to this country, Trump is compromised, this administration will end American democracy, the people who stood in his way last time aren’t around any more, etc… 90 million people heard this… then still chose to stay home and let this happen. I’m sorry Biden/Harris didn’t sweep us off our feet, but we deserve this. Don’t you dare say we “tried” voting against it.

If Did Not Vote had been a candidate:

I swear, I’m really not trying to pick a fight but they said “I want to…” Wishful thinking. Picking apart the wording of a comment I didn’t even write or agree with that isn’t itself illegal, advocating violence, or against a communy’s rules seems pointless…

To your edit: I stand by that. There is no joke. That person (I assume) has an illogical feeling that they want to rip it out… I’ve had the same intrusive thoughts standing at the edge of a high-up structure! If they actually do commit violence? Lock them up. Obviously…

  • Woah, woah woah. Slow down there, Captain Strawman. I never said I wanted to rip it out of their face, nor did agree with the other comment! In case it was too long for you to read or comprehend, let me rewrite it: “they are allowed to have facial piercings, I’m allowed to be annoyed by them.”

I’m also annoyed by the sun, and car alarms, and people who mispronounce words; I’m not advocating violence against any of those! If the boomers had left housing even somewhat affordable, I’d say get the hell off my lawn…

  • People forget how crazy the speculation was in those pre-streaming days. Like D&D (the Game of Thrones hacks), I think they thought they had to go in a different direction than fans guessed, or they “lost”. That’s not their job. Literal millions of people watched these shows every showing, there’s just no way that no one guesses what happens and posts it online. But their ego was bruised, so they thought they had to go a way that no one was expecting (because it made no sense: Game of Thrones), or say they wanted an unexplainable mystery (so no payoff after years of investment: Lost). The end result is ruining an incredibly popular, critically-acclaimed show…

Like in the image? That’s… a boot. Not a full one, but still a boot. (Side note: I’m starting to sound Canadian in my own head.) But I agree. The “snagless” ones are the best of both worlds: you can pull a cable through without it catching on anything, but still press down the plastic retention clip when the collar gets old and stiff.
