  • A lot of people are saying there isn’t a rights argument, which I think is true.

Considering this through the lens of a video game, is it morally bad if I pay a hooker in GTA, use their services, and then kill them? I don’t think there is harm. I don’t think there are rights. It wouldn’t matter if everyone was cruel to GTA NPCs.

Having said that, from a behavioral position, I don’t think it’s morally good. Put another way, this sort of behavior isn’t a good thing to emulate. I don’t think it’s a good idea to cultivate a habit of emulating cruelty.

As others have said, there’s still the risk of AGI in the future as well.

With where we are right now, I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I’m not interested in entertaining new slurs, fictional or real.

  • Maybe the largest difference for me is how the federated nature changes the social dynamics. For instance, people from Instance X don’t like those from Instance Y, or may even ban them.

This was prevalent on Reddit, buuuut banning can be instance or node based compared to subreddit.

I likely have some opinions or takes I wouldn’t post on lemmy.ml because lemmy.ml has a particular bent. I agree with a lot of it, but I wouldn’t want to offend with what doesn’t align or would get me banned. The ban cascades further out, and how servers interact as wholes with one another in terms of federation is similar.

The social platform mechanics are also different. Upvote has a different impact compared to Reddit (I don’t fully remember the specifics). I think saving has its own relevancy or something?

    It’s mostly the same though.

  • There’s a term in art called “authorial control.” Roger Ebert used the term to attack video games as art, saying they lacked “authorial control” and hence invalid for art.

The claim I hear in this is the AI taking away the control of the author. Yes, videos are edited, but there’s a bunch of choices made in that process. If some robot came in & started mucking around with my edits or lighting, especially without my knowledge, that’s a major red flag. YT, as a platform, already has enough problems. Invisible robots “enhancing” videos is perhaps one of the worst features they can add. Unwanted help is not help.

Read the book so you can tell others “Isn’t this what you believe?” I’m so sick and tired of the Right claiming Jesus. They claim Jesus with no good acts. Loving Jesus & not emulating his teachings is equivalent to no faith (James 2:15-18).

Matthew 32 calls for Christians to care for the poor, the sick, the immigrant, the unhoused, and the prisoner. “What you did to the least, truly I tell you, you did to me.” Every immigrant sent to a jail is sending Jesus to jail.

If ever these goons come for my family, I will quote the Bible until it haunts them. This country is corrupted.

  • Yeah, this reads like someone has some internal problems to investigate… She literally has a bag over her head as some sort of breathing system? It looks terrible & creepy, not in a good way. The trailer seems to keep this trend of female fashion, whereas every dude is in full battle regs.

Also, it reminds me of the Peter Molyneux game from 2012 with a giant cube.

  • I changed my marker during Biden. My state made it very easy. It’s a liberal bastion in the NE, and I have an X for NB.

But, yeah, I don’t feel exactly safe. If they made me change my marker, I wouldn’t have much concern psychologically (I’m more gender abolitionist), but I feel like they wouldn’t do much asking and would just rather “remove me” from society or whatever.

It’s not great, but I know some of my trans homies have it much worse. Going through years of HRT, therapy, etc., transitioning, and then finally getting to a marker and identity that aligns with you…only for this group to push you to change it back (or again, potentially worse outcomes).

It may be a time of setbacks and shitty outcomes, but Pandora’s box is largely open. While the trans population is small, a lot of people know a trans person now. Hell, Elon is bitterly related to one.

Even if they killed all LGBTQ people, you can’t eliminate this population like genocide: it’s an idea or identity.(“And ideas are bulletproof” jk) You can’t kill these feelings out of existence forever. Queer people will always exist.
