121·3 months agoBro I’m not going to wait 15 seconds to read that article fucking cloudflare, takes years to complete on a smartphone.
Soatok also has a very good post about XMPP
https://soatok.blog/2024/08/14/security-issues-in-matrixs-olm-library/
Matrix is great, but not the best, recently, less than a week ago, the Matrix.org server went down due to a drive failure, so they had to recover all the server data using a backup, so you are better off using a homeserver that is not matrix.org.
Also, all clients of matrix kind of suck. Element desktop is extremely laggy and sluggish to use. Element for Android is deprecated, ElementX, their new android client is not completed and lacks basic features. There is other clients but all of them have their downsides.
Use bandwhich to see which programs are using traffic ;)
Note: When using a pruned Monero node you can reduce the size from 80GiB to ~25GiB
Fijxu@programming.devto Linux@lemmy.ml•I have used Windows all my life, and I have some questions.
2·9 months agoJust as a note, NVIDIA on Linux is not bad, BUT IS REALLY ANNOYING because you will get some random bugs that are only exclusive to NVIDIA cards. Like this one: https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/non-existent-shared-vram-on-nvidia-linux-drivers/260304
If you have a low VRAM NVIDIA GPU and you want to play a modern game, you will have a bad time. (However, AMD and Intel should work just fine lolol)
Thanks meow
Fijxu@programming.devto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Does using Cloudflare's cdnjs compromise privacy?
3·9 months agoI don’t trust cloudflare. That is just a JS CDN that pulls a file, but is still gathered from an external server. In my case, when I have to use CDNs to use a JS library, I just download the file and host it locally.
You don’t own the CDN, is controlled by other people, which means that of course is less private to the end user, and more insecure since you rely on the people running the CDN and the author or the library. What would happen if the library author/authors get hacked and they add malicious code to the library? (Asumming it doesn’t contain a
integrityattribute like the one on your example). Is better to trust yourself, it doesn’t cost you anything to download a few kB of a JS file and serve it directly from your server. The page is not going to load 2s faster if you use a JS CDN
And no one wants this to occur to their websites: https://fossa.com/blog/polyfill-supply-chain-attack-details-fixes/

Fijxu@programming.devto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Contacts and calendars sync without a server (Syncthing + Radicale)
1·9 months agoRadicale is good, but EteSync is better, although EteSync has not been updated for a long time (as far as I know), the data is encrypted, which is way better if for some reason, the data of your server/VPS gets compromised.

1·10 months agoI think its better to leave it Closed Source, otherwise, YouTube team will be able to see how it works and how they circumvent their efforts on blocking 3rd party clients.

5·1 year agoNo, this is just propaganda

ID verification for phone numbers.
ALMOST every bank now forces you to have a phone application to authorize payments and each banks implements it in their own way, no standardized way like TOTP (RFC 6238) or Passkeys (WebAuthn), and sometimes those apps force you to use a verified phone (no custom ROM basically) because of security. So if you have no battery (or phone number, because some banks still send you codes trough SMS), you can’t authorize transactions.
Most banks use 3rd party, non local AI companies to verify your identify with your face.
