The steam machine will likely never even sell 2 million units.

The steam machine will likely never even sell 2 million units.

Did you miss the comparison being lifetime sales of the steam deck vs single year of switch sales? It also doesn’t include Xbox and PlayStation sales.
Look at the Linux percentage on any steam survey. That’s how irrelevant it will be until Linux gets a solution for kernel level anti-cheat.

I do though, because some of these games you claim to have played on Linux literally do not work on Linux. Even Steam says they don’t.

You said that you just “query the server” and get how many people are playing an online game……?

You think you can just “query the server” of an online game and get the total number of players?
Are you serious? Do you think that all game servers have an API with zero authentication that just returns the total number of players currently playing the game?
And you have the nerve to say I’m “tech illiterate” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The bad news for you: Fortnite still gets over 30 million unique players a day lol

I’m talking about PC too for most of the games. There are lots of people playing them on PC, just not on steam.

Me saying that you clearly haven’t played a game that doesn’t work on Linux, and has never worked on Linux, on Linux, isn’t defending kernel level anti-cheat. It’s simply correcting your misinformation.
If I said that Gran Turismo 7 doesn’t work on Series X now, but I definitely played it on there a few years ago, would you agree with me so as to not deny my personal experience?

COD in the cloud via browsers connects to the same servers as everyone else. So like I said, it’s the same.

You can’t have “personally experienced” playing games on Linux that do not and have not ever worked on Linux. There’s no “nuance” here.

You clown. Those games aren’t in the top 50 cause no one plays them on steam. Other clients exist. Other platforms exist. Warzone has more player per day than any game on steam. Same with Fortnite.
Roblox doesn’t run better on Linux via sober than on Windows lol. How would any Linux player know?
You guys think steam is the entire world.

Nah BF2042 has kernel level anti-cheat in MP.
BF1 and BF5 I believe worked on Linux.
Warzone has never worked on Linux.

No you clown lol. I’ve written code on a windows machine that you will have used on Linux, on Macs, on what whatever device you use.

Everyone here (99% probably) thinks communism is the best and just hasn’t been done right yet, so I really don’t care lol.
You’re actively arguing against Linux becoming a legitimate gaming OS threat to windows. As a Linux lover and windows hater. Amazing.

That’s just an idiotic take.
Just FYI: I can virtually guarantee you’ve used software that I’ve written code in, on a windows machine.

You’re looking at this from a “I love Linux and detest windows” point of view, when I’m looking at this from a gaming perspective. Windows can play every game Linux can, but the opposite is not true.
Why on earth would anyone want Linux to not be able to play a bunch of games, many of which not being able to play is an absolute dealbreaker for tens of millions of people? That makes zero sense.
I want competition because that’s what drives innovation and improvement. I want Linux to get to the point where it is a legitimate competitor to windows as a gaming OS (and a general purpose OS). It’s not there yet, ands it never will be when people like you make excuses for it not being.
“Oh we don’t want those games anyway” is peak “corporate cocksucker” behaviour. You don’t have to want to play them, but to not want them to be playable is utterly astoundingly cuck-like behaviour.

Simp and cope, simp and cope. That’s all you’re doing.
A gaming pc not being able to play literally the most popular games in the world is not a good thing. Even if those games are objectively terrible - which they’re not - they’re the games that the most people want to play.

You’re talking complete garbage. I’ve been a dev for 25 years. Mac and windows machines. Linux releases and hosting. Never run into any problems you’re pretending are common. Literally never.
The fact that you can’t elaborate when asked says all that needs to be said.
You clearly have no idea how networks and servers work. Someone would have to make an API that responds with the number of active connected users, and leave that open with no authentication, or return it unencrypted for people to snoop on. No one, especially big game developers, are that stupid.
You don’t know what you’re talking about.
