I am but a cog in a machine. A lazy one though.
If you are new on Lemmy, check out: https://lemmyverse.net/communities for communities to join!

Haha no worries, I know what you mean. I love Joplin and personally like the style, but it is bland compared to alot of other apps. Hoping that it will evolve and offer more themes :)
I don’t do journaling full time, but Joplin has been great. FOSS, cross-platform, allows you to pick sync target (if you want any, I use my cloud provider) and on top of it all it supports e2e encryption of your notes.
Nicest thing (personally): allows you to export markdown/html/pdf/etc…
No, because I need that job to get money but saying so would most likely prevent me from getting that job and, by extension, money.
Ah, thanks! Didn’t know that. I guess it wont have an effect then and can be ignored.
Edit: fixed up wording.
I recently had this problem while dualbooting mint and windows: windows was shutting down the LAN hardware somehow.
Had to disable fast startup (in windows, but I recall some Motherboards have also “fast boot” in BIOS as well?) and also in windows’ LAN adapter settings a power saving option.
This is the thread that helped me: https://askubuntu.com/a/879818
A shot in the dark, but hopefully it helps.
Thanks for sharing, this made me smile. Also it warms my heart to hear how you are making tech accessible to this kid.
Many of us take it for granted but I remember how my dad used to go over to family friends in his free-time to help with computer stuff. I feel like I was too young to learn but it did set an example for me.
Sounds like !casualconversation@lemm.ee might be a nice community to post this question to as well :)
Isn’t that very country/culture/field specific?
I’m not going to say it’s not a me-problem, but disregarding the fact that if it was that simple it would be more widespread amongst people is making it seem as if we don’t try seriously and downplays the effort many like myself put in.
I care about privacy and about my close ones (as many here do) and I explain the issue to them in a nice way so to not come across as a pushy salesman, and they readily admit that they don’t want to put the effort in (effort as in learning something new, upkeeping with multiple apps, etc).
It’s not that I don’t know why they don’t switch immidiately - I know why. It’s simply that they don’t. It’s okay not to switch as long as you know the risks and I’ve explained the risks and they seem to understand it, but it’s not enough to get everyone to switch.
If life was that simple with everyone (I know some switch without hesitation) the world would be completely different.
You can explain to a decent normal person the imminent doom we are facing with climate change and they may understand it very well, but they still wont give up on using their car and switch to public transport immidiately, because it is an inconvenience.
Yup and months of premium instant 24/7 tech support to ensure the slightest thing doesn’t return them to default apps in the beginning !
100% agree with you and I do the same.
You can still download the APK from their repository, install it, and use signals built in censoring-evasion setting as far as I know.
They are even working on self updating app feature IIRC.
This is why I donate to signal. I know there are decentralized alternatives but I can barely get my family and friends to use Signal.
There is a discussion (has been many discussions and for a long time) in lemmy GitHub repository about this: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/818
We even have an official lemmy community for joplin! !joplinapp@sopuli.xyz (it’s linked on their website)
Someone’s account got banned by instance admins for mentioning they are 17. So you are right: no one is going to check!
Edit: it was on lemmy.world and nostupidquestions community IIRC
Awwsome! No problem at all. Long live Lemmy indeed!!
That plan sounds good and it should be absolutely no problem to transfer the moderation to you since it is on your instance and the mod has been inactive that long! Indeed go to the support community I mentioned and earlier and ask :)
No problem at all and good luck! Glad to have you in lemmy :)
PS. If you take over the community and want it to grow, here are some communities to get help with growing it: !communitypromo@lemmy.ca and !fedigrow@lemm.ee
No worries! it’s confusing, I know.
Now, if you can tell the community name we can help you more.
Or if you prefer not to say then you need to figure out the community’s instance it is on, so the server name that comes after the AT sign examplecommunity@instance.name and contact the Admins of that instance.
If the community is in your instance (so lemmy.world) it’s tad bit easier: go to !support@lemmy.world and make a post about volunteering to take over a community.
Good luck and don’t hesitate to msg me or ask me here for help!
While I personally wouldn’t want this and agree with the comments about simplicity, old forum style, privacy talking points, I just don’t understand why people downvote this post.
It’s a good question that creates good discussion (you know, purpose of lemmy) and doesn’t really lead to anything concrete necessarily. Just interesting discussion.
People use downvote as a disagree button but it does have a real impact on the feed: this post will get buried by some post feed filters and some people will never see the good discussion going on in here.
But to answer the question (even though there are already good answers): I personally think it’s also a stressful feature that will just make people feel like they need to answer to replies / will make lemmy look dead because only a handful of people use anything but “invisible” status.
