I haven’t used Steam Community Forums for a few years, but when I did, it really depended on the game (and I’m not the type to be playing the games where there those behaviours would become prominent). As someone who mostly plays indie games, I found the odd racist post where it was clear they were trying to find like-minded people and nobody would bite. Also, if I reported something for any reason, they typically took care of it within 24 hours at the most and I never had a case where I reported something get rejected.

There isn’t only one reason for that to happen. I have two old smartphones around. Both are no longer usable with any worthwhile mobile service in Canada. The first (and oldest - originally mine before becoming a hand-me-down to a relative) went out of use after the elderly person who was using it had it active for a year or two but then stopped bothering with it due to his illness keeping him at home and preference for larger screens in general. The other I’d still be using (still use it for some things!) if I could. I have always used my computers, phones, etc. as long as I could get away with but for #2, I had to get a newer (but used) phone to keep service after the end of 3G in Canada. The new phone is definitely nicer in some ways but I wouldn’t have changed phones if I had a choice. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Their concept of what makes a game profitable is incredibly puerile. The result has been a scene that’s increasingly sterile.

I only heard about him yesterday so I was going off reports I came across, all of which seem to treat him as having been an Anglican priest and one of which added he almost wasn’t ordained, but later was. Are you from the area? I know it’s certainly easy for one media outlet to make an error that is then echoed by almost every other one.

I heard he almost wasn’t confirmed in the church in the first place, but I didn’t know about the gaming website editorial staff resigning. Wow.

I’m also considering alternatives to Proton myself. I’ve seen the privacy-oriented communities give a bunch of options. Search “Privacy” and you’ll see them listed. Tuta probably isn’t bad as a paid account but the free app left a lot to be desired the last time I checked (no message search or sorting like Proton).

They’re definitely going to make criminal amounts of money off this one way or another, but he still has to put up a pretense (like the incomplete border wall).

Also, I don’t know about Masayoshi Son, but I suspect this is a prestige thing for Sam Altman and Larry Ellison, among their billionaire buddies. I don’t know if Altman in particular is going to be okay with just bailing from something high profile.

I can’t help envisioning long-term corporate welfare here (similar to Musk companies, hence his jealous jabs about it), nominal jobs (with a sudden loss of job security as soon as AI can replace them), and horrid potential uses for the AI advances they do make.

Yup, even if the short-lived boost I mentioned was about the people who will do work in the datacentres, he’s really doing this to benefit the tech billionaires he has swarming around him lately.

Believe me, I’m no fan of the guy but for now he is trying to spin the Stargate thing as a job creating measure. Hell, in the short-to-medium term, it could well spur some short-lived economic benefits within the US. Beyond that though, it will probably be disastrous. I really hope world governments have the sense to develop countermeasures as soon as possible, with high priority.

(Normally my habit would have been to check if the topic was covered, since headlines can be misleading. Case in point, in this case they were going for humour more than accuracy there, but the article indeed has examples.)

Pretty sure according to current science, the sex is “undifferentiated” until a certain point in development. That means Trump wrote it so no one is female, lol.

That standard would be an excellent first step. Honestly I think advertising specifically targeted towards kids should be banned in general though.
