Not sure if this is appropriate to this example, but these paper/cardboard wrappings can save on plastic: The inner container can be made thinner and is generally easier to recycle, as there is no need for printability or pretty finishes (not saying that they are being recycled, but they could).

Tbf both Rommel and Lee sort of undertook efforts to end the war. Should they have considered not fighting it in the first place? Sure, but that would have been too easy.
