13·1 month agoAs if I needed any more reasons to never set foot in that wannabe dictatorship.
Muricans, fix your shit.
Man, that would be a fantastic topic for Mythbusters!
Just yesterday evening I saw their final episode on YouTube, closing up fourteen years of shows. I was moved.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What distro do you install on other's computers?
1·1 month agoI’m not looking for a date, but this made me curious. Would you elaborate?
I don’t use Ubuntu and wouldn’t go out with you if you do

7·3 months agoFor a moment there I did not know that word is the name of a software application. Reading your sentence literally is… odd.
No offense, but this question is what is holding many people back that would otherwise be on the fence or ready to go.
If there were just Mac / Windows / Linux, it would be an easy sell.
But we have Mac / Windows / two million Linux flavors.
It does not matter which one you pick, it is bound to cause questions or issues. And once you’ve chosen a Linux flavor, someone asks you why you chose that desktop and not foobar9000 instead which everyone knows runs much better on your Linux flavor anyway.
I honestly think that Linux’ biggest enemy is Linux. Sure, choice is good, but this is too much. Way too much.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your reason for not flipping to Linux?
1·3 months agoI am a worker ant in a colony of ten thousand ants. There is no chance in hell that my voice will be heard. On the contrary: if I make too much noise, I will be purged.
It’s not my circus. If corpo wants to run crappy bloatware (Win11) then that’s on them. And they do. Shrug.

2·3 months agoYou are thinking from a technical point of view. I agree there, but this is not about “can you?”
Corporations don’t care about workers. They care about security and legal stuff. So you will use their officially sanctioned OS and tools, or you will be fired for violating their policies. There’s no arguing that.
Small businesses don’t have such policies, and workers have freedoms. That’s where you can do these things. But big organisations are lost to us. Accept or leave.

1·3 months agoEvery corporate setting ever.
Corpo says use Windows, you have to do that. Circumvent it and you are going to get fired. Even using a nonstandard browser, or whatever, can get you in hot water. Corpo protect their legal standing, workers are irrelevant.

3·3 months agoEvery office job ever runs on Windows & Office. Fact of life, cannot change it.
Maybe excluding the smallest businesses where the people are actually still human.
“here” is not a useful descriptor in that sentence.
Nothing spectacular.
Git, Paperless, UniFi Controller, Pihole, Mattermost chat, Immich, Home Assistant, Frigate, Syncthing, Hoarder. Just stuff for myself, my home, and my friends. And 🏴☠️
And you?
Valid! I also tinker with selfhosting using Docker containers, didn’t think of firewalls the same way. Thank you.
This is perfectly valid! I to a lot of tinkering with selfhosting using Docker containers, and I have learned a ton from that. I feel a bit silly that I didn’t make the connection with firewalls - just tinkering for fun!
Same. What’s the deal with having elaborate firewall stuff for a normal family home anyway?
If the built in stuff isn’t good enough then 99.9% of households would be compromised a long time ago already.
If you can only choose between those two, I would prefer karate, mostly because later in the sporting career tae kwon do becomes excessively violent (to the point of complete knockout and worse) whereas karate remains softer.
But at a young age, the spirit and the style of the dojo are much more important, so try both and then choose the one that has a better feeling.
My son attended a different variety at that age, and we hoped there would be focus on discipline and spirit - but there was none at all, it was just about kicking things. Very bad trainers with no people skills. So we took him out from that again. Turns out swimming was his thing - just had to discover it.
Are you actually forced to move away from your Windows 10? You could just keep using it. Fuck Microsoft and its lack of support. If it works why change it?
Interesting points, thank you.
Today I wanted to block everything with facebook and Instagram, it looks like I am hand-editing a config file to do so. And it applies to the entire network; AGH has no concept of user groups. Am I missing something really obvious?

And the Colemak keyboard layout 😅
