I played a buncha Vampire Survivors around that phase lol, just need one hand for the controls. Football cradle baby, hold bottle in that same hand (does require some wrist flexibility), other hand & arm free.

That hold doesn’t help with wiggles of course (and maybe you already use it) but at least you can pause VS.

Goddamn inflation…

I stumbled onto this at a library as a kid and couldn’t get enough! This library was a big one and it wasn’t near us, so I selfishly tried to squeeze in every moment I could.

I did feel guilty, knowing my grandmother was stuck waiting for me, but the game was too compelling, my nerdiness too severe, and my grandma too gentle. I was powerless to do anything but press on.

Years later I realized…my grandma was a librarian, and this was an unfamiliar library to her. She had the better time by a mile, and must have counted her lucky stars that I was content to just stay in one place (AKA safe and behaving myself) for hours on end. I can remember her coming to check on me every so often, and each time I couldn’t believe I got to play even more.

Seems like the obvious joke to me too…

It’s funny, this kinda stuff reminds me of the best parts of the (largely bygone) punk rock and hacker subcultures. Feels like almost the specific overlap between the two. And lately it feels like there’s been more and more of that, like the condition of the world is causing those ethos to reawaken, to recapitulate their evergreen salience, maybe even to combine.

Probably projecting a bit, to be fair. I feel I’ve internally stayed an old punk rocker and hacker, and feel those old flames reigniting, despite the indignities and compromises that come with middle age and spending eventual adulthood trying to survive in corporate America. Not so punk after all, lmao
