A confusing term. All the left leaning terms have been corrupted by the MSM and the uni-party system. I like to say neo-con/neo-liberal, pretty much both the same, to identify the left and right. There aren’t any real far left/old school liberalism/pro-worker in the democratic party, as much as the uni-party and MSM will tell you there is. They are now mostly independents. The neo-liberals would like you to believe AOC, Bernie and hand full of others are their progressive “left libs” but they are not. They are neo-liberals. Anyone telling you to vote for the neo-liberal candidate…is a straight up neo-liberal despite whatever game face they are pretending to play.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there any libre open source website like Rumble where l can create my own channel ?
2·7 months agoTrue, it is the nature of fediverse and the like. I keep waiting for the for-profit proprietary options to collapse, the gov’ts impose draconian measures making it so heinous for users that they seek out decentralized options.

LOL, did they? It wouldn’t surprise me. I remember there was some internal in-fighting going down, someone got accused of stealing funds, buying a personal laptop. Drama aside, it is a dangerous Arch derivative that is highly promoted, especially for newbies. Sad.
I NEVER recommend Manjaro. They hold back packages for “security/stability” reasons which is antithetical to Arch’s structure. This can cause stability issues (happened to me) and even breaking your system.
I would recommend Arch, EndeavourOS or Garuda (awesome KDE gaming ed,) and a lot of peeps like CachyOS, mostly for their customized kernels/CPU optimizations. You can get CachyOS kernels inside of Garuda as well.

Sounds like you are new to linux? I always recommend newbies start out with Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Ubuntu has a good installer with scripts that detect hardware, particularly older or fringe (wifi, etc) hardware. Is it the best? Not in my opinion, but you want your laptop to work and educate yourself on linux in the beginning. Once you are a moderate to advance user, switch to Arch, it is the best imo.
I think it depends on the distro, some have it as a dependency of their whatever, but should not be a problem on minimal install distro’s or pure Arch itself.
Agree. To its credit, it made the transition smooth.
Sadly, Ubuntu. I quickly moved on to debian…and ultimately landed with Arch, my true love for many years. I use Arch, btw.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why doesn't the Linux subreddit leave Reddit already?
2·7 months agoIt is the censoring, from the top down. That is like a brick wall on reddit that will hit anyone in no time.
This…so true.
There is no two-party system, it is a uni-party, anything else is smoke and mirrors.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Atomic Linux Distros: What Barriers Stand Between You and Making the Switch?
61·7 months agoLong, LONG, time linux user here, but to answer your question, most general users don’t tinker. They want it to ‘just work,’ which is why Apple, and to a lesser extent Windows, has dumbed everything down and made it proprietary (beyond just the locked in money thing) so users don’t have to think. Plus, support is a big money maker, for the corporations anyway.
EndeavourOS doesn’t add anything to Arch performance, it is basically a minimal install of arch with their theming included, which you can opt out of during install. But, to each his own.
