because the only reason I still use Reddit is to interact with adults in my profession from around the world with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints and with good hearts but limited tolerance for spending time learning obscure tech

so anything to reduce the barrier of entry for those people is one less reason to ever use Reddit again. that’s a win in my book. if you want to stick to your ML communities y, that’s your right. but are you really going to change the world by shutting everyone out?

Short-form videos, like many things in modern society (e.g. many video games) are essentially just a Skinner Box. You scroll, watch the video, get a hit of pleasure, and then the video automatically replays. That cues you to scroll. Repeat. It’s easy to get stuck in that loop, especially if you already are struggling with executive dysfunction and can’t find motivation/pleasure in ordinary activities.

lol I absolutely agree that TikTok style content is a major contributing factor in mental unwellness (and there’s scientific data supporting that) but you have to understand that is what the majority of people are looking for. and it’s not going away, at least not any time soon, and probably not from any top-down actions of coordinated governance. we gotta accept the reality that like AI it’s part of our world now.

“Uncorrupt” misunderstands the nature of corruption. How do you envision resolving the interests of the forces that give validity to said government while still keeping a capitalist structure?

“Generate wealth” presupposes a specific kind of wealth created by the government and given validity by the capitalist structure. You win at the rules of the game you made up. “Middle class” has a similar problem. “Prosperity” to a nation starving under the global capitalist regime might look quite different. Why use one benchmark over the other? Because of the game you want to choose.
