Leftist with an incorrigible love for fancy aesthetics (mostly Renaissance Italy/Victorian England) that might be incorrectly read as a monarchist because of that.

  • It might but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I’d be more concerned about what I call “the dumbot apocalypse”

Which is to say AI does accelerate the collapse of society. But it’s not because We Created God Only For He To Turn On Us ™ – It’s because some politician, drunk on hype fed to him by venture capitalists and techbros, puts an AI (and I mean these current AIs) in charge of something very important that by no means should be controlled by an AI, even if that AI WERE human level intelligence, and what we call AI right now is not even close – And then the inevitable ChatGPT Hallucination ™ takes place and the bot decides that a war with China is the only way to increase corporate profits for the next quarter or whatever. Humanity nukes itself, and maybe the humans pressing the button don’t even realise their orders come from an LLM.

… And then the machines immediately shut down, because even these pretend, toy AIs we have right now are straining the global power grids, so the micro-instant electricity production slips, they’ll drop like flies (Roko’s Basilisk MFs when a minor brownout takes out their ‘god’)

    • Religion can be a force for good. For social cohesion and a feeling of belonging. That it often isn’t speaks more to the samesuch cultural and emotional rot that has affected literally everything than to religion unto itself.

    • It actually makes perfect sense for a country to want to limit or tariff importation of goods. This, if done right, can bring industrialisation into the country. You can’t have a nation that is all middle-managers, despite the First World’s best attempts to become that, it’s just fundamentally unsustainable. And while you can have a nation that just produces/exports raw materials, this is ultimately bad for the people in that nation.

  • Incredible. Literally everything you just said was wrong.

Germany wasn’t “a small country”. They were an industrialised, highly productive and heavily armed global power. They were slightly battered by post ww1 humiliation regulations pressed on them by the winners (because they ALSO lost that one!). But the instant they told the Allies to eat shit and started using what they had, any claim to “smallness” went out the window.

And they didn’t “almost win”. They got their asses kicked.

Every single thing the Nazis wanted to achieve, they failed hard. They wanted to prove the genetic superiority of the German people in the Olympics, instead they were soundly beat. They wanted to expand their territory, they got as far as fucking Poland and France and then stalled for years until a double whammy of Americans and Russians basically curb-stomped them, with the last few years of the Reich consisting of lots of propaganda coping hard about how their soon to come wonder weapons would turn the tide, which never happened because said wonder weapons were stupid ideas that only succeeded at getting more Nazis killed when they failed in testing. They wanted to stop the spread of communism, instead half their country became Soviet domain.

And then their “strongman” leader blasted his own brains out rather than face the fact that he was a loser in every way one can be a loser.

  • Just some minor nonsense. But all of it yields a fun memory.

I won a hat from a Wario Ware (Wii) tournament at my country’s biggest nerd-convention circa 2009. Got like a 15 minigame lead on the second place too.

I won a(n imported, we’re brazilian, these were never published here) copy of a My Little Pony Comic Omnibus from a giveaway at an MLP forum I participated in some 10 years ago. I never read the physical comic, it just sits untouched at my shelf. I just read the pirated .cbr

A few months later my SO won a Hot Topic Vinyl Figure of Princess Luna (also imported) from another giveaway at the same forum, and gifted it to me.
