“privacy friendly” and “free cloud storage” are oxymorons. If you aren’t paying for a product, you ARE the product
it’s quite modular. I would argue that each individual component does follow that ethos
if you’ve ever used one then you know that that is indeed it
it is unusable

2·4 months agoYeah, go ahead and install your own Linux distro. Now you can’t authenticate to the internal network or use any of the services.
At the end of the day, corporate being able to manage Linux is what makes it possible to be used in an enterprise environment. There are regulatory and auditing requirements that would otherwise make Linux not an option.

1·4 months agoMany of us find ourselves to be more effective on Linux. There is some business requirement in terms of the service runs on Linux, but they didn’t have to let people have it on their personal workstations

1·5 months agoWe might have to agree to disagree here. I’m not even sure politicians are paid unreasonably well imo.
But I guess my main thing is that I don’t believe perfection is attainable. All we can do is get close enough. We’re definitely not there yet, but I think we gotta keep taking steps in the right direction

1·6 months agoYou can still use the lemmy-ui frontend on lemdro.id, it’s just at l.lemdro.id and not the default. You’ve got all the choice in the world still.
I’m a big fan of people being opinionated about things. If you want something a certain way, do it! That’s the beauty of the fediverse and open source in general. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to use my instance!
In-general, we work closely with the photon dev to maintain feature parity with the default frontend, and we also get some neat and useful moderation features too.
