Were Auschwitz and Daschau tourist destinations or are we on our way to being worse than the Nazis?

collapse_already@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Idea: A button on your phone app that plays a generic "number doesn't exist" recording to confuse spam callersEnglish16·4 months agoA coworker of mine changed his voicemail message to start with the tri-tone that plays for a disconnected number (bah dah deet) followed by a normal voicemail greeting. The auto dialers delete the number from their list when they hear the tri-tone. It did confuse legitimate callers that were trying to reach him though.
Well, the gun would certainly improve my chances in the battle against fascist cops and soldiers. Political resistance is proving to be a failure. The Dems are already thinking that Kamala (proven failure) is our best chance against Trump 3.0 in 2028. No third-party will be viable by that date.
I have given up. Collectively, we’re incapable of long range planning. Climate change and non-renewable resource depletion are intractable problems. A significant number of us refuse to even acknowledge the existence of the problems. Things will have to get massively worse before anyone will have any success in changing approaches.

collapse_already@lemmy.mlto Memes@lemmy.ml•i use edit.com, notepad and geany btwEnglish1·5 months agoVim. I used to use emacs in the mid-90s, but I just found that vi was more universally supported. At this point, I am too old and stubborn to learn anything else. I am really efficient in vim.
collapse_already@lemmy.mlto Funny@sh.itjust.works•FREE HIM (after the sheets are on)😂English15·6 months agoI don’t think mine would find that to be much of an obstacle to interfering.

I had to restore from backups (which ironically, I had made with dd). I’m usually overly cautious, but I was in a hurry.
collapse_already@lemmy.mlto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Bafta: "we’re asking players from around the world to help us decide the Most Influential Video Game of All Time."English2·7 months agoI have been gaming since 1980. I have never had a more visceral blown away reaction to a game than the first time I played Doom. We even setup a LAN in our dorm so that we could play it multi-player. The only other computer experience with a similar impact was seeing web pages for the first time and realizing that my parents would be able to use the internet with them (no need to learn usenet, ftp, archie, gopher, and all of the command line utilities that I used). Doom felt so revolutionary.
I bet you can guess from my user name.

collapse_already@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's your favorite unbelievable fact?English3·8 months agoI think the selective attention test:
further illustrates the limits of human vision and mental processing quite well. Defense attorneys probably ought to play this video in any case where witness testimony is a big component of the prosecution’s case.
collapse_already@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Thanks to Nvidia, there's a new generation of PCs coming, and they'll be running LinuxEnglish0·8 months agoBut arm is the most deployed microprocessor in the world? I’d much rather write arm assembly than Intel or PowerPC. For higher level languages, arm has good compiler support. Can you explain why you don’t like arm? I’m genuinely curious because it is probably my favorite development environment (I mostly write embedded system software).
collapse_already@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Thanks to Nvidia, there's a new generation of PCs coming, and they'll be running LinuxEnglish0·8 months agoHaven’t they been making things like the Jetson AGX for years? I guess this is an announcement of the next generation.
Well, I have not been banned from Lemmy for my anti-Nazi opinions.
