should be pretty easy with imagemagick. it has libraries for most programming languages, or you can bash script something together pretty easily

2·2 months agoman honestly those things smell great in the first place for some reason
normally id say “linux is free, there’s no harm in giving it a go”, but between your lack of free time, nvidia graphics card, dependence on proprietary software, and previous experience (and slight distain) for linux i’d say just go with win 11.
there may be a way to get your music software to work in linux, but youll likely need to mess around with wine configs and it may never actualoy work right.
if you are interested ever, fire up a vm and play around with linux to get comfortable with it. maybe when win11 reaches eol (or even before) you’ll want to make the switch.
none of this is said to scare you away from linux. searching for drivers is rarely a thing in linux. there are built in tools in most distros to deal with graphics drivers, but apart from that, given the open source nature of linux, everything else is just handled by kernel modules and are basically seamless unless you have some weird proprietary hardware. linux is fairly easy to use these days, but there is quite a bit of a learning curve because it is a fundamentally different os than windows, and the way you solve problems is very different.

Linux@lemmy.ml•The worst mistake I could have possibly made with Linux...
171·4 months agoyou did nothing wrong. ubuntu is a perfectly fine distro for beginners. the reason i dont use ubuntu anymore is the age of the packages started to bother me. also its kinda annoying that releases hit eol at some point. i like arch for the rolling release (no eol) and the fresher packages.
if ubuntu worka for you, keep using it. there is no correct distro.

81·5 months agoyeah i feel you. I’m in a band, so instagram is basically a necessity for promotion and communication. getting the word out about shows, other bands will message me for gigs etc
just try to use it a little as possible, and try to lock it down as much as possible in the os. you can do alot in the android app settings.
basically treat it as you would having a conversation near a security camera.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which program is the one that surprised you most that it is available on Linux?
43·6 months agoabout 10 years ago, i noticed steam was available for linux. for the longest time i had pretty much written off gaming on linux (apart from like tuxcart, nethack, emulators…). i hadn’t considered actually being able to play “real” games.
that was before proton, so there really wasn’t a ton of stuff i could play, but i found some good stuff like hotline miami, papers please, super win the game.
obviously now we have proton and linux can be argued as a superior gaming platform in many cases.
they could have at least made a loss meme out of it
haha what a funny post.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is it safe to upgrade to paid version of a distro if I'm dual booting?
23·6 months agoi may be wrong, but arent you paying for support, not features?
in order (2000-present): red hat, slackware, debian, ubuntu, arch, manjaro, nix

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Liberux NEXX Is a New (Still in Development) Linux Phone
61·8 months agoi think that’s not a great way to think about it. when is the year of the linux desktop? its a slow build until its a viable ecosystem.
if companies just stopped making linux phones, the ecosystem would wither up and die (not counting postmarketos)
every new linux phone will inspire new people to try linux on a phone, and eventually we may have a viable alternative to ios and android.
this is exactly my opinion on it. one of my main gripes was the text rendering. if i needed to change some text i basically had to redo all of the work on any shadow or stroke as well, not just correct a spelling mistake or whatever. very excited to check out the new version.
should be fairly simple with any distro. personally, id recommend mint or something for ease of use. install steam, and you can use steam link for android (chromecast, roku, firestick, mobile), or steam link for linux (raspberry pi etc). steam has built in compatibility for windows games running on linux, and a built in streaming setup. a bit of an all-in-one solution.
you can try a steamdeck-like distro as others have suggested, but they may be less easy to learn on if youre not too familiar with linux already.
keep in mind nvidia drivers are a sore spot in linux, so if possible try to use an amd graphics card.

0·11 months agoThat’s an overly simplistic view of rhyming.
In the general sense, general rhyme can refer to various kinds of phonetic similarity between words, and the use of such similar-sounding words in organizing verse. Rhymes in this general sense are classified according to the degree and manner of the phonetic similarity
