by that logic, over 100 million people died because of the united states; so it’s still better
everyone seems to keep losing them so that makes sense. lol

and then, if it keeps getting more popular, it gets banned, then unbanned, then sold to isreal like tiktok. lol

i’m going to be one of the last holdouts; refusing to switch to a chromium based browser. lol
my current laptop is probably an extreme example since i get around 4 hours of battery life on default fedora 43 workstation, but almost 8 hours (DOUBLE) on windows 11.
i’m aware that i can get longer battery life if i experiment with the power settings or try different power utilities (ie powertop), but i’ve learned from experience that the battery life will never be the same as it is using windows.
i’ve also learned from experience that only open source firmware projects like (ie coreboot) can give you the battery performance that can rival windows and mac and i got to enjoy that by buying linux-first laptops vendors with open source firmware on it like system76, tuxedo, etc.
the most irritating thing about the laptop i have now is that it will charge from 5% to 80% in 50 minutes when it’s running windows; but it takes almost 2 hours to do the same thing running fedora so i will probably buy from system76 again next time i need a new laptop. lol
i recommended this because i tried it once and it did work, however i learned the hard way that the image in the usb stick is different than the installed image and i had to use the usb stick’s image to find the exact module and configuration so that i could duplicate it on the installed image…fyi
and it too was a realtek nic. lol
try running off a fedora usb stick long enough for this issue to have been triggered in alpine to confirm if this is the case without wiping out your installation.
with no guarantee the next system is any better.
there are living, breathing examples of better systems out there.

which file manager are you using? i have gnome’s files and it lets me specify the path by click on the current folder name and it looks like you’re using the same thing.
i miss the ease of buying new hardware.
everything is optimized for windows and linux works on it too, but it’s not optimized and something about getting less performance than paid for irks me (especially w battery life).
so every time i need to buy new hardware, i have to either spend weeks investigating potential purchases or i have to spend A LOT more money to buy from system76, tuxedo, etc.
i didn’t do that this time around to learn what it’s like to put linux on a windows laptop like i used to do back in the early 2000’s and linux (of course) works, but its battery life is terrible compared to windows on the same laptop and my work macbook.
next time i’ll buy from tuxedo.

you start to like it more when you inspect it closer. it’s like an endearing ironic juxtaposition compared to those REALLY convincing deepfakes floating around out there.
the yanis varoufakis deepfake on youtube blows my mind every day.
it isn’t about any individual assholes, it’s about a people who foster a culture where this sort of take is considered acceptable.

why am i unable to look past the bad spelling of majel barrett? lol

i don’t understand the phone addiction, so i don’t think i’m qualified to answer that; but i can say that i notice that people speak and behave differently if they rely more heavily on their phones than i do.
and i also suppose that the fact that i don’t bring my laptop everywhere with me and that the only time i use my phone at home is for phone conversations make sense.

they tend to be less of an addiction because we usually don’t keep them turned on all the time.
i never shut mine off.
@obelix@obelix@lemmy.world this explains why they’re making age verification a thing on both social media and operating systems as well as capturing “rogue” platforms the become sufficiently significant enough like tiktok.
if they can prevent the youth from obtaining information that contradicts the indoctrination they’re getting from their environment; they can control the narrative and discourse in the future.
aka: the primary goal of propaganda.
