I recently installed Mint on my laptop and I have this problem, too. Windows 11 sucks, but I could just close the laptop and not worry about it and still have battery for a long time.
Now I assume it’ll last with the lid closed maybe a day or two at max, and even then I’m plugging it in the moment I open it back up.
“Trending” gets you somewhat the way there to a “what’s hot.” Though I wish it’d update more often.
But, in reality, that just means I get off of my phone sooner because I’ve seen the same stuff so that’s fine.

If they want new users, asking them to blindly download software without even a look or maybe a video of new features is not it.
Yeah, every time I have ever tried Gimp, attempting to do anything felt like someone had purposefully been contrarian and made every operation work in the hardest and most confusing way.
And someone may say, “well, you just have to learn it!” OK, sure. Or I can use something that makes much more sense from the jump like Affinity Photo. (Yes, I know you have to pay for it, but it’s worth it. Yes, I know not everyone has the money to do so.)

The people there seem pretty chill in my experience so far.
Hopefully this money will allow that ONE DUDE to get some help in managing these apps. I know he has maybe a couple of collaborators now, but maybe they can get some more dedicated people to build out the apps. It’s a lot for one or two people to try and spin up two apps at once.
The Pixelfed app that dropped last week, for example, doesn’t even have a button to view the global feed. It’s better to just use the main website of whatever server you are on right now, even on your mobile device.
