  • You don’t even have to change that, but I’d love to see something that at least changed it to long term profits, like over 3-5 years, not quarterly where everything is running into the ground for every penny. We can even do that by changing how we tax stocks. The longer held, the less paid on taxes.

But even without that, well regulated capitalism is fine.

The real root problem is campaign finance deregulation which allows corporations to buy out both parties primaries for people who will make them more money, and further deregulate campaign finance so that the next round the politicians get more and are incentived to repeat.

Especially with how campaign “war chests” can roll over forever.

It’s a snowball effect and the longer we ignore it the harder it is to fix. The harsh truth is most elected Dems at the federal level shouldn’t be there and need to be replaced. We can’t just wait for the rotten apples to fully rot to make space for new ones. We need to get them the fuck out the barrel

  • Yeah, by no means are they off the hook.

But their entire job is signing up to be the fall guy as the face of the company. That’s why golden parachutes are a thing and an incredibly unpopular CEO resigns in “disgrace” then is immediately hired by another corporation often in a drastically different field.

Because, again, their only job is to be the face of the company for when something unpopular happens.

Everyone in the C suite at a billion dollar corporation is evil, they’re all at best complicent

  • All they can think to do

    They’re not that stupid.

They know exactly what voters want to hear and what they want politicians to do.

The issue is that is often the direct opposite of what their donors tell them to do. If they wanted to reach out, they’d hand AOC a megaphone or let Bernie talk about policy.

They’re focused on “messaging” because that’s what they have control over still. They can’t change their votes or support of policies, because the oligarchs decide that for Dem leadership just like they do Republican.

A letter by their name doesn’t make them your friend just because the other letter would make them your enemy. We need to have higher standards than just that letter, otherwise the ones with the most donations will keep winning primaries, and keep being the only other option.

  • Under President Biden, Zeller said the White House asked him to lay out a timeline for how a nicotine rule could be finalized by the end of 2024. Zeller said he delivered the plan in one of his last acts before retiring, and was not sure why the Biden administration failed to finalize the rule.

“I would not be forwarding this timeline to you, if I didn’t believe in good conscience that it could be met, as long as clearance times could be sped up,” Zeller recalled telling White House officials.

Didn’t stop people from giving Biden credit for accomplishing something just a few days ago…

This is the danger of giving credit before anything is done, they get the credit and quit.
