That shit was a core memory for me, too - I was in middle school when 9/11 went down, and high school during the Iraq invasion and war. I remember feeling weird about signing up for selective service (it’s a compulsory holdover from the draft era, if you aren’t aware), and being moderately concerned that I’d be plucked for deployment to the Middle East if some political dipshit decided they needed more meatbags for the grinder. It absolutely sped up my political coming of age.

Side note: I now struggle to take the popular outrage at the event seriously, in light of the fact that during peak covid, there were a couple weeks where we were losing a 9/11’s worth of people across the US every single fucking day. The best sort of methodology I’ve found to coerce Claude or whatever (we are strongly encouraged to use it, because you know, tech these days) is (for a single agent) to define a process that includes proving its work and citing sources. For agentic flow, you basically just assign a contrarian role in particular domains to some of the agents - ideally all of this is also hooked into an MCP server that includes deterministic utilities to improve accuracy and solution arrival speed.

It’s basically just a shitty, brute-forced, massively over complicated Monte Carlo algorithm that’s wildly inefficient in terms of energy usage and infrastructural cost, that also happens to be turning our economy into a highly flammable house of cards.

Honestly, I’m pretty glad I comically overspec’d my 2020 build with a 5950X and 64gb ddr4. It’s been running like an absolute champ since I built it. I did shift from a 3080FE to a 9070 XT when I finally jumped ship from W10 to Bazzite, though. And there was a dead stick of ram that cropped up back in ‘23… I should probably go into my bios and tune the ram speeds down a bit to increase longevity, what with the price of memory these days.
