Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If everybody at ICE protests showed up with masks and a gun would there be more or less violence?English
10·19 days agoI do think there’d be more than a few mutinies and refusals to follow orders all across the board. Perhaps even to the level of the president trying to nationalize (for instance) the Minnesota National Guard, and their commander responding with a hearty “fuck you, eat shit”.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Inside Denmark’s struggle to break up with Silicon ValleyEnglish
15·27 days agoI’m saying I want to make a difference by helping to break the hegemony the country I was born in has on the world. I dare say the only people who would call that a bad thing are specifically the sort of people I absolutely fucking detest in this place.

35·27 days agoAs a unitedstatesian engineer, reading stories about escaping the infuriating (and now, very obviously caustic and manipulative) US monopoly on tech infrastructure companies makes me want to move to the EU and help break the monopoly on that shit. There are other things that make me want to move too, but the opportunity to build some real alternatives that diminish US hegemony over… well, everything, is frankly more than a bit enticing.

4·29 days agoYeah… my last serious rebuild was in mid/late 2020, and I definitely overdid it with a 5950x. But the good news is that I feel relatively future proofed. And I found a deal (read: found being sold at MSRP) a 9070XT several months ago that I replaced my 3080FE with (mainly because I’m shifting to Linux gaming and AMD makes that easier with the drivers). I’m gonna ride this out for a few more years. And I’m gonna pray that none of my RAM decides to shit the bed 😬

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How strategically operate the people behind Trump?English
7·2 months agoLook into Peter Thiel. He’s one of the most influential and strategic players operating in the shadows of the regime, and he’s been at it for well over a decade - probably closer to two. And he is one heinously evil motherfucker - personally, I consider him to be an enemy of humanity in general.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the hardest addiction you've tried to break or are trying to break?English
6·2 months agoFor me: a big component of it is a sensory thing. My brain does NOT like it when I can feel roughness on my fingers or hands. The best I’ve been able to do is just keep a bunch of good glass nail files around the house and in the bags I use and travel with, as well as some cuticle trimmers. That way I just trim and buff things out until my brain is like “mmmm yes this is fine, carry on”, and it’s way less of a compulsion.
But stress also often triggers it for me, and that’s harder to buff out :(

6·3 months agoI mean, yes and no. Most of the userbase is that way. But there are some users (and instances) that tend to be massive pains in the ass. So build and curate your blocklist too.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Looking to upgrade, compatibility questionEnglish
1·3 months agoSystem-core-wise, my setup is similar to yours. I also recently upgraded (arguably, sidegraded I guess?) from a 3080FE (10gb) to an RX 9070XT (16gb) that I found a deal on last month, with the intent of finally jumping ship on windows and converting to Linux for my gaming box - already got a bunch of Linux machines between a couple spare laptops and my homelab stuff, but gaming was my last major windows use case… and their market capture is frankly crumbling lately, what with how shit W11 is. I’m not planning on upgrading my setup any further in the next couple of years, because it handles whatever I want these days @1440 qhd pretty great.
