Maybe in the past, but that doesn’t seem to be the case at the moment.
Torvalds pointed out that the numbers he applies to new kernel releases are essentially meaningless.
“We haven’t done releases based on features (or on “stable vs unstable”) for a long, long time now. So that new major number does not mean that we have some big new exciting feature, or that we’re somehow leaving old interfaces behind. It’s the usual “solid progress” marker, nothing more.”
It says overall experience. Just say you worked two simultaneous AI jobs for the last five years and you’re good!
Less mentioned downside - digital rights management is significantly degraded in linux. Most commercial streaming apps/sites will work but but only at SD or 720p.
Cool, that was my assumption but I’m sort of a noob so I didn’t know if the plasma bit was card agnostic or not.
So this is just for AMD cards, correct?
edit: you still technically have to touch the terminal to confirm yes or no with octopi, didn’t realize this meant completely terminal free. But also this is such an xda-developers headline lol.
finally lets you manage pacman and the AUR on Arch without touching the terminal
excuse me? https://github.com/aarnt/octopi
disclaimer: linux noob here.
the separate pull request appears to be for archinstall, “a helper library which automates the installation of Arch Linux.” it would collect user age during installation… somehow?
this is what i was going off of. i’m running cachyos (arch). am i reading wrong?
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/763290/what-is-the-preset-field-in-systemctl-status
It just says that when installed it was enabled, and it has been disabled later on. As for this apache server just after install Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service; disabled; vendor preset: disabled) – admstg Commented Dec 7, 2023 at 10:50
mine doesn’t appear to be? it says installed but disabled. unless i’m looking at the wrong service which is entirely possible.
Thanks for explaining it a bit more. I moved from Windows 11 to CachyOS (limine bootloader and kde plasma DE) sometime last year and that may be a bit above my paygrade right now. Based on what I’m seeing in the Arch Wiki it would seem that quite a few systemd components are in use for my distro.
forgive me if this is a joke, i’m not well versed in linux shit yet, but wouldn’t that only remove systemd-boot?
What is the alternative to systemd? I’m sort of a linux noob when it comes to this deeper level stuff.
Bullshit. Social networks track the living shit out of everyone and know exactly what’s human traffic and what isn’t. Device identifiers (user agent, IP ranges, browser fingerprint, (lack of) ad id, etc.) and behavioral patterns (including purchase history) differ wildly.
https://github.com/xvzc/SpoofDPI plus a browser fingerprinting blocker.
They also want to defer the costs of positively identifying users to the various governments, presumably so it doesn’t eat into their advertising revenue even further.
I grew up in the 90s and there were some absolutely unhinged ads during saturday morning cartoons. This spoof is only slightly crazier than an actual capri sun liquid cool commercial.
This isn’t even a conspiracy theory, it’s been investigated and found to be mostly true.
Cachy has been basically rock solid for me, after figuring out a couple nvidia issues. The biggest problem I faced was trying to understand wine/proton prefixes for restoring saves files on some of my older games. Though I’m running Plasma which I guess is kinda “vanilla” compared to these fancier DEs. Props to the Cachy team and the Arch Wiki team for having such a vast wealth of information available that’s pretty easy to follow!
I’m wondering if the HD2 mouse issue was bc he had a controller plugged in as well.
Lol he said he doesn’t want any version number higher than what he can count on his fingers and toes.
