Consider this:

someone forks the project and doesn’t respect the license

extends functionality to make the data gathering decentralized/centralized

they make a product and rake serious cash

you are pennyless

privacy is violated even more

I see only too options:

walk away as this is lost battle

make the data open source so anyone can acces it.

there is no moral high ground in this project.
