yep, having that under control of one corporation is unacceptable. Imagine if some corporation owned pyramids or caves full of paintings by first humans to such extent they could grind it all to gravel if they wanted. Right now they are preventing fair use of the content too, by forbidding downloads of the videos.

Google has way too much control anyway, since google account has become too important for many people and getting it suspended would mean catastrophe to such individual.

the problem about replacing youtube is that there is over 10 years worth of videos and history in youtube. Not only do you need new content to appear somewhere else, the old content has to be available too or majority will not even consider alternatives. And if enough people wont even consider them there is no way the alternatives will gain content creators.

Google has us on iron grip with this one and it can most likely ONLY be broken through legislation. It isnt really realistic to even start downloading worthwhile stuff from youtube and putting it elsewhere, though it would be better than nothing.

what about the encrypted traffic different programs send/recieve on my computer? is it possible to decrypt that?

make it so that every user owns their data collected by this and its all encrypted with some key private to that user. Then have only t he user be able to share the data with others. Or rather dont collect it all to some central database but have everyone make their own for private use.

But I dont think this is very good idea in the first place. What use is it to regular people to track others licenceplates? Who do you share the information with, the government? In usa they would just gleefully abuse it, in eu using it would just be horribly difficult for everyone involved due to legal issues and having private database about other peoples information isnt allowed or it requires somekind of registration i think, or was that only in finland.? In fact this might be outright illegal system in eu. Other places likely have superior database already.

And in the end, the whole thing will likely just be taken from you by force if nothing else works. Maybe some corporation will buy you out or maybe government will just seize it. No way they would just ignore something like this if it has any use to them.

So please be really careful how you do this so you dont end up making things worse for everyone by mistake. At least have some safeguards so you can destroy the whole thing if you need to so it cant be abused if anyone trys to take it from you.

Its nice idea, being able to track stuff independently, but i think it might belongs to some different, more friendly world, that is not this awful place we have to live in.

even if it was completely safe now, it will change in the fututure. Corporations just cant keep their hands to themselves and will saw any branch for short term profit because they will never get any REAL consequences for anything. Before long it would start connecting to internet to “better classify” the images by uploading everything to some server. Likely it will expand to every file eventually so it can “protect” you from whatever their spindoctors come up with.

targeted ads are stupid anyway, i dont want to hear about stuff i could look up myself if i need something. Constant ads are even more stupid because its just stuffing their stupid corporate shit down our throats.

There should be one opt in ad service that collects all the possible ads and you then just browse it like a catalog or something if you want to find ideas what to buy.

Oh my god, that is such stupid detail to get hung up on then. There are actual problems with it like censorship and consequent potential untrustworthiness of the answers and THIS is what they decide is the worst thing.

ai cant understand anything, that is why they will lie wildly if they dont know something. It can’t know that it doesn’t know. It would likely require somekind of consciousness for it to actually understand something. Expecting anything more than what it currently does well is just stupid until it proves it can do more. Yet people keep being surprised, but that isnt anything new.

If you have “throwaway” phone, you could use that too. Make fake accounts and let them gather all they want from those, just keep in mind to maintain the separation.

Personally I have always had multiple accounts and names on internet so even having google account feels like they get only part of me. Though even then its like chain on my neck, as I have to dread them banning me for some crazy or not crazy reason. You are correct in not wanting to have one.
