Privacy@lemmy.ml•Proton has ties to Israel. What's a safe alternative?
21·1 day agoWooosh. That search would be pretty useless to anybody who opposes genocide.

21·1 day agoIt’s kind of amazing how many people are asking for references without doing the bare minimum of searching.
Instead of replying to every dufus in here:

Search the rest for yourself.

21·1 day agoSuch a claim without source and explanation or interpretation of assumed implications are pure fear mongering.
It’s not some kind of secret that Proton supports genocide. They brag about it.

62·1 day agoHaving servers in Israel means you are materially tied to them now?
Yes. Profiting from servers under genocidal control is literally being materially tied to genocide.

Aren’t you worried about you posts on Lemmy being stolen too?
everything you spend mental energy on
Nope.
will be lessened when AI
Nah.
it seems like AI means a lot more people have been building open source tools.
TBH I haven’t seen this. AFAIK I’m still using the same open source apps made by the same people. I haven’t seen a single “AI” app that I would add to my stack or replace an existing app with.
Are there some examples of some great apps that have been built with “AI”? Like a list somewhere?
Personally I would really like a clone of GarageBand for Linux. So if an “AI” can whip that up real quick, I would really appreciate it.
Libs can’t imagine any “activism” beyond voting for garbage people.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Abstract Strategy Board Game - (Open Source/Creative Commons)
6·16 days agoI have used free AI LLMs to get this current version of the game to where it is at, so the code base will likely need refactored… While this has yet to be implemented, I think it is a solid that we should refactor into eventually.
Yeah the “AI” slop approach is ultimately a waste of time since everything will need to be rebuild anyway. But on the other hand maybe it’s useful as a demo to attract actual devs.
Gnome is soooo annoying. You can’t customize anything without “tweaks” that barely work.
I definitely prefer the customization of KDE.
I usually see people discussing distros but I feel like picking the right DE makes much bigger impact.
Yeah I often wonder about this too. I think that the package manager is another major factor. But I think I might be happy with any distro running KDE. I’ve gotta get outside my Debian bubble to see.
Since no one else has said it… Pixelorama is somewhat focused on making pixel art and animations, but it’s great at what it does.
the text editor when I try to resize text, it just ruins it and gets blurry sometimes.
I dunno what you’re doing but… When you resize text, you usually want to select the text and increase the font size. Sometimes you can render to vector and resize that. But if you resize the text as pixels, then it’ll probably look bad. Generally I try not to render text to pixels or do that last if necessary.

22·26 days agoThere is no such thing as “AI”.
But I appreciate the generated summaries of search results. Sometimes they miss the point of my search, but they’re often quicker than searching through the webpage results.
I don’t know why people get so mad about it.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Reminder/invitation to contribute to OpenStreetMap
3·27 days agoI’ve been using OsmAnd. I’ve tried to label some stuff but I couldn’t figure it out. Can I contribute with this app? Do I need a different app?

Not sure why people would downvote this completely reasonable question.
Unfortunately I don’t know of any VPN services that actively oppose genocide. I would like to know as well.
It’s part of the misery of living in the imperial core. The whole of capitalism is based on genocide, etc.
