Neither source seems to point towards fudged numbers, more towards an increase in suicides as a societal issue to be tackled. Nobody said there’s no suicide in China.
All countries have a political interest in showing themselves as better, though. I’m aware enough of China’s history to know that your allegations are just that, allegations.
