Now Trump wouldn’t know a FOSS project from a hole in the ground but do you know who does? What world leader who has an entire cyber attack force on his payroll and wants to remove any barriers in finding dissidents who are probably using Tor to coordinate and hide from them?

Do the math. If the government funding of these projects is allowed to be removed it’s gonna be a whole new ballgame on the internet and the only ones to reap the benefits are the dictators.

You will never approach the amount they receive from government funding. That is the point.

Didn’t that pay off so well. How many American soldiers were killed, injured, or traumatized? How many innocent Afghani and Iraqi civilians were murdered? And for what? ISIS and the Taliban now have complete control over that entire region.

And to the people saying how much better Bush was than Trump as well as the dumb as fuck democrats embracing that fucking war criminal Cheney, I say you all need to get your god damned head examined. Trump’s election denialism was born out of the Brooks Bros riot in Florida during the 2000 election and Trump is absolutely hoping for some terrorists to kill Americans so he can declare martial law and suspend elections in order to remain president indefinitely. Bush and Cheney lead to this. This was every republican’s goal.

By all means everyone should take breaks from the media and not doomscroll constantly. But if you disengage completely you will have given the people making the world like this everything they want. They want you to be apathetic and disengaged. They want you to stay home on every election day. They want you to ignore everything they are doing, because criminals can work better when there’s no one watching what they are doing.

So, for your mental well being please do take regular time off from the 24hr news cycle but also, look into how you can help to turn back the tide. See where you can volunteer if you have the time, join your PTA and keep an eye on your local library (these have been major targets of right wing nut jobs looking to undermine progress), or if you are too busy then just simply repost the positive messaging from those few in our government who are doing all they can to hold the line against this regime. Challenge the thoughts of those you know who are either giving in to apathy or voted for Trump but are even slightly doubting his actions. Every crack can be a door. And, most importantly, VOTE IN EVERY ELECTION.

There is also a cyber war that has been going on for the last 2 decades. And Trump just recently lowered all of our defenses.

Yes I did read your comment and here you just proved my point. And my solution was not for old people. Point I was making in my comment was that old people are already lost cause. They don’t understand technology and therefore will not benefit from it. So yeah they get suckered into buying these TVs and then they never use them properly or they get somebody younger to set them up so that they can use either Netflix or Disney+ since those are the only things they know of to watch whatever programs they can pull up or they pay someone to get a cable box plugged in and surf like they did in the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s.

My “fix” is for younger people, twenties to '50s, who don’t want to deal with the ad-pocalypse. I have been able to set it up multiple times with various sized computers right down to a Raspberry Pi. And yeah, of some ain’t tech savvy enough to plug a computer into an HDMI port and use it to watch stuff on their TV, I have no sympathies. We live in a digital age and if you’re younger than '50 years old and can’t work a computer, you’re dead out of luck when it comes to digital entertainment and you might as well get used to having ads shoved in your face the rest of your life.

But the fact of the matter is, the older generations don’t really use Smart TVs, they’re still using Comcast boxes and accessing regular TV. Some of the more tech savvy will engage Netflix or Disney+ but beyond that, it’s doubtful they even know anything beyond those exist.

I made my Smart TV into a dumb TV by never activating the smart TV functions. And then I plugged a relatively cheap computer into it. So I don’t have this kind of problem.

I’d be careful about that. Walmart in particular is getting nasty about theft. Even in making a mistake at the self checkout they’ve ruined people’s lives.

That’s beginning to wane. The fewer major posters there are, the fewer people will look to the site for information. And the fewer people on there looking for info…etc.
