Messages in iCloud are E2EE protected only if iCloud Backup is disabled or if iCloud Backup is enabled with Advanced Data Protection (ADP). Otherwise, Apple stores a copy of the encryption key, allowing Apple (or authorities with a court order) to access your messages.
-
Probably obvious, but messages sent over SMS (green bubbles) are not E2EE.
-
Telegram uses a proprietary encryption protocol called MTProto, so who knows if it can be trusted.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•out of the loop, what's the problem with signal?
6·6 months agoI used Session for a couple of years, but switched back to Signal because it did a poor job with media sharing.
It’s been a while since I switched back, so maybe it’s fixed now?
It works with MicroG…

Privacy@lemmy.ml•What's with Telegram? Heard mixed opinions on it.
1·9 months agoSignal is easy to on board folks to. Not a huge fan of the phone number requirement, but it’s worth the trade off for me. I used Session for a while, but media sharing was buggy. I’ve heard good things about Simplex, but the inability to have a desktop client was deal breaker for me.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•What's with Telegram? Heard mixed opinions on it.
5·9 months agoEven with e2ee, I wouldn’t trust it since they use a closed-source, proprietary encryption protocol.
I just use an audio recorder while the call is on speaker phone.
Molly (fork of Signal) allows you to use multiple phones https://github.com/mollyim/mollyim-android
I used it for a couple years, but came back to signal because I had so many issues with media sharing.

11·1 year agoI’ve never had an issue loading my tickets in the browser.
Can you explain why you chose the hand and eye? A hand print is a very identifiable trait, so it seems counter to the idea of privacy.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•What's the recommended Android browser for privacy in 2025, that is also usable for day to day tasks?.
31·1 year agoI use Firefox Focus/Klar as my default and if I want anything to persist, I’ll open it in Brave or Chromium.

Picocrypt is another one you could check out, assuming you are on Android: https://github.com/Picocrypt-NG/Picocrypt-NG/releases
Cryptomator is great and I use it on the desktop, but you have buy a license for Android and they only support a certain set of providers. Mine is not one of them. https://docs.cryptomator.org/misc/supported-cloud-services/
