121·14 days agoHonestly, announce it on a gaming community here that allows promotion. And put it on GoG too. Some of use are trying to reduce our use of US tech or reduce use of monopolies.

This article again. Drew Devault is a shitstirrer that lives from drama. Painting Louis Rossmann as a nazi, white supremacist, or monarchy supporter is just misinformation and I’d go as far to say that it’s slander. He has thousands of videos trying to hold the state accountable, is nearly rabidly pro-privacy and pro consumer rights, and rails on and on about how shitty big tech companies are that have their way with their consumers.
I happen to agree with FUTO: the opensource licenses are not that great. Open source developers should get paid and if that means the definition of opensource has to evolve, so be it.
We should stop treating the opensource definition like gospel and quoting it as if it were a religious text. We should think for ourselves, not let our thoughts be dictated to us and then just go “this person said it, so they are right”.
FUTO funds great software. If that came out of the pocket of Hitler, Stalin, or Mao, I’d be happy ad it means less money going to whatever evil main endeavors they have. If a monarchist spends his fortune on opensource instead of raising a monarchy, fucking good. Don’t stop him. Demand he spends more.

27·2 months agoQualcomm should embrace Linux instead of relying on Microsoft. Valve recognized that in at least 2012. Who knows how long it will take Qualcomm to wake up.
People are starting to leave Windows. Windows 11 on ARM is not going to be a good experience and who will want all the AI crap slowing down a gaming rig? People won’t be able to install Windows 10 on the new ARM devices so the most likely option will be Linux with either SteamOS, Bazzite or something else that can run Steam.
Valve has also been investing in running x86_64 on ARM (can’t remember the name of the project) and even going to use it in the Steam Frame. It will run on Linux, not windows. Ignoring Linux is going to be idiotic if Qualcomm wants to be appealing to gamers.
Pushover licenses show how much influence big tech companies have over opensource. It’s in their interest of promote these licenses.
So does the Fairphone.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•"There is no platform that matches Steam's excellent discovery system" according to Heroes of Might and Magic publisher, the real problem is "some games should not be made"English
53·2 months agoI believe we have different definitions of slop. Slop isn’t the input to me but the output. You can get all the best ingredients to make a pie but if you mix it wrong, you get slop. Same goes for low quality input being moulded into a gem.
AI doesn’t always output slop.
And if you’re focusing on input, then all your electronics are slop. It’s almost guaranteed that child labor and exploitation was involved in collecting the resources required to build it. Your chocolate is most likely slop tooby your logic - if you bought any big brand or no name chocolate, child labor was almost certainly involved. And those children were likely also sold by their parents. There are also US products made from slaves (they call them prisoners, but is it really OK to lock somebody up for stealing a cookie and forcing them to work 8 hour days for cents per hour?) and in China Uyghurs are also forced to work unpaid. If you drink tea or coffee, boy is that all slop. The amount of land that ceded place to the large tea plantations (and let’s not get started on products with palm oil) and underpaid, overworked workers (mostly women BTW) are almost guaranteed to make that tea or coffee = slop.

Nope. Fuck Amazon.

No. Libraries will always be useful. Not everyone has the credits to generate the tokens necessary to rewrite every lib in existence.
