ooh its always so interesting to come across these. writing clear and effective english is a learned skill that isn’t the same as writing “correct” english. the author seems to rely heavily on indirect and passive phrases and poor preposition use which leads to a wandering feeling:

Monolith continued work on Legacy for several years with the thought it would have enough sway due to the success it has generated in the past that it would be able to convince WB to pursue the new IP. However, that dream died in 2021 when WB Games canceled the project, which resulted in Monolith’s entire leadership, including many other developers, leaving the studio to go and form what is now Cliffhanger Games with EA.

    here’s the same quote, “fixed”:

Monolith continued development of Legacy for several years, under the assumption that the IP’s past success would maintain WB’s interest in its future. That dream died with the cancellation of the project in 2021, during which Monolith’s entire leadership and many developers separated from the studio to form what is now EA’s Cliffhanger Games.

it’s possible english isn’t the author’s first language, or they simply don’t have the communications education you are used to seeing in journalism. at least you know it’s not ai though :)

  • hi! i also am on the lemmy.cafe instance :) there’s not many of us but it’s very chill

as for what you did to have happened, your relative may have just sent you a link to lemmy.cafe?

that’s the cool part of fediverse: you technically don’t “join the fediverse” in the same way you don’t “join email.” Rather, you signed up for an account on a single server that can communicate with all the communities hosted between all the different servers. It’s kind of like how you might choose to make an account on outlook.com versus gmail.com—and you visit the site to go there.

  • there’s genuinely been some class consciousness getting into play

i saw some users from both countries compare prices of eggs and vegetables, and they even did the necessary math of accounting for average wage and cost of living. the chinese users are not allowed to talk about their politics (sadly; this is a bad thing) but they are allowed to talk about foreign politics and they are probably bigger fans of Luigi Mangione even than i have seen in English speaking social media. there are candid discussions of queerphobia as well in its different social (and for the US, political too) manifestations between countries.

i take issue not with that but with the random assertions that feeds are being kept separate :) here’s US and Chinese fans having fun in a post about American artist Chappel Roan!

Blocking you as well, thanks for letting me know you just like to argue.
