This post is a few years old, and was disproven as a fake anti AI post. No surprise this misinformation is doing well on Lemmy

Bro this is in /funny not /legitimate-criticisms-of-ai. When someone posts an image of SpongeBob with a funny caption do you get on there saying “well actually SpongeBob never said that, not surprised this anti-SpongeBob propaganda is doing well on Lemmy”

This sounds like some llm bullshit to me. You might think it’s fake and maybe it is, but this is the exact type of shit these large language models push on us. So either way I’m for this post and against you. The word to text keeps changing everything I say to LOL, a phrase I never fucking used ever ever I fucking hate it and I’ve hated it for like fucking decades.

I ended this paragraph with hitting it for decades and they added in LOL even still. I must have Gremlins inside my phone. Which is why we all need to switch to graphene OS.

“I don’t care if it’s propaganda! I don’t care if it’s proven to be made up! It suits my narrative, so it’s real to me!!!”

Uh, where are you coming from here? There has never been a hype larger than “AI” that is posing, it’s LLM’s, not AI at all. You are accusing those calling bullshit on the trillions of dollars companies that are hyping their tech? Ha ha. What kind of a fucking tool would hype “AI” on lemmy of all places? Ha.

But I recognize your username. We got into it before.

I think we all know that the accuracy of your statement is not what’s getting downvoted.

Nah, I’m with them. The average Lemmy user is stupid as fuck and willing to believe anything that even vaguely conforms to their biases, and I 100% believe the majority of upvotes are from people who thought this screenshot is real.

Several weeks ago, there was this post in a news community to a BBC News article. It was a real article; no tricks, correct headline. But the link was a 404. When I found it, it was upvoted about 20–0. I downvoted it as obviously nonfunctional but also commented remarking that it’s a 404 and giving the OP the correct link. When I came back to that post a couple hours later hoping to upvote a fixed link, the link was unchanged, it was upvoted 50–1 (my downvote), and it had one comment (mine) upvoted 1–0. (Edit: I checked, to preemptively clarify, that this wasn’t a “me” problem.)

The lack of scrutiny Lemmy applies as a collective is fucking appalling, and the level of introspection they have about it is somehow even worse.

I get the frustration and I don’t think it’s fair to downvote somebody just because they don’t conform to your opinion.

But with the overhyped shitshow LLMs have been so far, I also understand the hate against them. I mean, while not being real, this screenshot seems quite believable, because any user has seen something like this already.

No, but it is fair to downvote people that are too stupid to recognize clearly fake shit. If you honestly think this post is believable… fucking christ… Do people not use their heads anymore

I agree and I’ve noticed it it’s gotten worse over the past 6 months. I figured there was another reddit exodus.

so, this kind of shit stirring happens regularly on the english speaking internet before US elections. I’ve become less and less convinced it’s organic.

Joking aside, I remember that one economics professor (I went to a creepy religious university in Utah. You know the one) that took weird trips to Russia and always had the loud “voting is a waste of time because marginally only one vote matters and what are the odds of you being that marginal vote so don’t waste your time” bullshit that really appeals to the underdeveloped libertarian mind. (whenever I asked him if he voted he said yes. Funny that) He works for a “think” tank that advises the Krasnov administration now.

Meh. It’s worth noticing that, in the modern era, everything is an echo chamber. All the more reason to socialize in person and reduce interactions in semi anonymous places like Lemmy, Reddit, etc
