I won’t lie, I feel like an outcast and I imagine majority of Lemmy are Millennials and Gen-X. The r/GenZ subreddit is mostly garbage but still want find an online community that is for Gen-Z by Gen-Z so I can use less of Reddit if possible. I know, I commited biggest sin on Lemmy for using Reddit.

I’m not sure if I would have the time and energy to make a community from scratch. Mainly just trying to sell the idea of Lemmy to people without sounding pretentious. Also, I did suggested Mastodon to my friends and was disinterested. Not going to lie, it did a hurt a bit as I do feel bit passionate about the Fediverse and I feel weird for being interested which most people in their 20s won’t care and using Instagram or TikTok instead.

Is it possible English isn’t your first language, and you interpreted “whatever the fuck” as offensive or snarky? I can assure you that wasn’t the intended tone.

Millenials and GenX started using the internet when we were basically the only ones online. Everyone was a handle, there was no gender, race, or age, just another person. Introducing a generational divide between users is a new concept introduced by deanonymization through social media. But it’s not necessary here. I honestly never know if I’m talking to a 50yo boomer or a kid with an iPad, and I don’t care. Just contribute to the discussion.

I don’t think they were intending to be snarky. At least, not towards you. Perhaps towards society brainwashing us all into thinking that generations are useful in any meaningful way.

If anything, they are encouraging you. Go find stuff you like, it doesn’t matter how old/young the other people who like it are. If you can’t find those communities, make one! That’s one of the beautiful things about Lemmy; it is what you make of it.

You have no idea if they weren’t calm. It didn’t sound snarky to me either.

That’s sorta the thing though. Once you’re working age the age divisions mostly become working age, retirees, and young folks.

The day to day we’re all suffering through is pretty fucking similar. Even Gen-X isn’t swimming in money or anything - our experience is shared.

I don’t want to say that doesn’t happen at all but what I mean was just asking a community that primarily is Gen-Z can talk about whatever they feel nostalgic (like whatever TV-Show or games I used to played).

But instead, Lemmy users had to be unhinged and spin it into something that apparently I want some kind of generation war or support a “divide”. I might just go back to Reddit if they are this passive aggressive and take anything in bad faith
