I wanted to try out PixelFed and was just going to make an account using the og pixelfed.social server, but after reading the rules, I definitely don’t want to use that server. Mainly because of this rule
“No incitement of violence or promotion of violent ideologies”
That’s not gonna fly for me. I definitely want to see people inciting violence against CEOs and stuff if the time comes. Anyone have any server recommendations that doesn’t have rules like that and won’t block other instances, If that’s a similar thing like Lemmy instances block others. I like seeing everybody’s opinions and comments even if I disagree with them. I don’t want to join an instance that would, for example, defederate a hexbear pixelfed instance.
What you want is not an “uncensored” server, but rather a server that is moderated in a way that you find acceptable.
There is no such thing as an “uncensored/open” server. Or, when there is, it can’t last long. Every open server needs to delete some things, because if they don’t, their disk will soon be full of spam and CSAM and then the server will go away. Some servers claiming to be “uncensored” might allow nearly everything besides those two categories, but they tend to quickly become nazi bars.
Sorry i don’t have any specific suggestion, but of the 61 servers listed here hopefully there is one with a moderation policy that is to your liking.
Nazi bars is a great practical example of the paradox of tolerance.
Feel free to set up your own instance then.
Most here in the Fediverse don’t host that stuff because we’re not corporations - we’re people. People who the feds can bust down our door and demand to see our logs - and if we don’t comply can throw us in prison. So yeah, many servers don’t host that.
You can, though. Go for it.
Nice try, officer…
You’re gonna have to host your own instance if you want candid filtered photographs of legally actionable violent threats. Weird medium for inciting violence, but godspeed.
The laws for incitement of violence are supposed to be pretty narrow; see Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444 (1969). OTOH, prosecutors tend to overreach frequently, and fighting it in court is expensive, even if you would otherwise prevail and have charges dismissed.
I’m uncertain what the benefit to federation there is for that content.
How is there more or less benefit to federation with this content?
Yeah, no instances are going to allow that.
If you’d like to stand your own up, I will help you.
i just don’t get it why people down vote posts like this
I don’t really know Pixelfed instances well enough to be of help but I hope you find one that suits your preferences

You’re trolling, right?
Right?
Bad gambit
