I really hate that companies being hostile to their customers has become normalised such that it’s really expected.

There’s very clearly a right and scrupulous thing to do. Not having an obligation to do that is not an excuse not to.

Not surprising considering most companies have no plans to refund the consumer for the tariff costs they passed on because there’s no regulation forcing them to do so.

They make it so much easier for us nerds to tell the normies that these companies suck and to not buy shit from them. Broken ad infested OS, no disk Sony drama, and now this.

Please don’t forget who enacted these unlawful tariffs in the first place and who, to this day, uses them to blackmail other countries.

Also, don’t forget that US corporations have gone along with this and are refusing to give the money back to the people who they took it from. The entire system is complicit and there are no good guys anymore.

I figured. DS had great piracy, which is where my burgeoning hope was pulled from.

Switch has great support too. Older models could be modded without requiring hardware modification the later ones like the oled did.

Depends on your firmware and such. It often takes time, but they’ll all be jailbroken eventually.

We do (in the USA) have a legal framework for this already? There are at least a handful of industries where, if it is found that they’ve mischarged, they do have to provide a refund.

Also the thing that annoys me the most is: They didn’t pay the tarrifs, the consumers did. Those price changes were 100% passed onto consumers, and it should be consumers of those products seeing the refunds. If they can prove that they lost revenue based on the price hikes, sure, give some recompense, but they shouldn’t be getting refunds on something they effectively didn’t spend money on

Just to highlight the good actors too:

For one thing, Arctic announced a price rollback after securing its refund, saying this will continue until “every single dollar Arctic received […] has been paid back to our customers.”

Panic, maker of the Playdate handheld, has taken a bolder stance, offering refunds to those who bought its console and were charged extra for its tariffs. Company co-founder Cabel Sasser said last month, “It’s just not our money to keep.”
